Yes, I've heard this too. But I've been watching that part over and over....it isn't there! Or blind I am, this 1138 I could not see.

According to this article on starwars.com, "1138" can be spotted

during the attack on the Jakku village. A couple of stormtroopers say:

“Check over there.”
“Fan out!”
“Copy that, 1138.”

 

I've just listened to that part several times just now. Now I'm deaf I guess. It isn't there LM.

I may have heard "113" but I am not sure really. Not convincing at all. What makes worse it those words that accompany the "113" are not what Sw.com says it is.

TBH I am not sure it is appropriate for 1138 to appear in the ST as it is a personal GL reference, as in it was something he included as a reference to his first movie (THX 1138). Not sure why Disney or even Lucas Film would bother other than fan service.

I think that's enough of a motivation. And since it has zero impact on the story (and viewers won't even notice it unless they look hard) it's harmless fun trivia.

 

Before iPhones had six digit unlock screens, I reckon you could hack maybe 20% of Star Wars fans phones with 1138. It would have worked on mine, anyway.

 

@Skillzwalker I think it's perfectly fair. JJ Abrams puts a toy R2 D2 in all of his movies. Not sure if there's one in TFA (He had the real thing!) but there is in Star Trek:

Going the other direction, Lucas' THX 1138 4EB (his college film) is set in the year 2187. I'm putting a link below, it's a very interesting watch, about 15 minutes or so. Give it a watch! See if the title character strikes the same tones of another character in this film.

 

By inappropriate I mean it is a George Lucas thing, not Lucasfilm or disneys. Of course it would be harmless to do but im thinking they decided not to do it as it's personal to George.

 

we've already established it's in tfa and it's more than just a gl thing now. it's a sw thing.
