It was on short notice at the State Library in Melbourne but last night's meet was awesome. It was a very interesting discussion on Gamer's Rights. Great to so Vader there still recovering from the sniffle. PoT also showed with a few little special guests. Also it was a delight to see Lute finally make a show!

No photos allowed in the library..technically no bags either.

Lute and I arrived just on start time. I looked over and see the imposing figure of Vader who was in very good form. Then about 10 mins later PoT and JE arrived and sat on the other side of the room before they realised we were there. Jason Hill was ok as a moderator but the real info came from the panelists: Panel Members: Tony Trubridge (Team Immunity), Mike Bantick (IT Wire and Byte Into It on RRR), and David Hewitt (Tantalus). Each gave a unique but coherent view on gamer's rights, the ongoing censorship debate and ethics. Damn that lucky PoT winning a free pass to eGames!

Yeah, I already had plans for Tuesday. :( Next time...

... what is a panel, though, exactly? Just those three people giving talks and taking questions, or what?

lol, that may very well have been one that JE and I were at...Actually, I think we might have been more circa 2001-2002. We turned up to a couple of the SW meets held just near Melb Uni, were wowed by Dags auction skillz and kinda frightened by some guy who had this metal claw thing....

Great to see you again Grant, and of course Chris (although given your stint on Family Fued, I feel like we'd kept in touch anyway... :p )

I met a couple of people from here a year ago at the Armageddeon Expo at the Star Wars booth. Dont remember their names but they were very nice.

Sometimes organising things with short notice is the way to go. Too often people try to get things together only to be met with a chorus of "sorry I'm busy that night". In my view is something is REALLY important to get to then people will find a way.

Unfortunately I didn't know this meet up was on so I didn't go, but I applaude the concept of saying "we're meeting in three days time, be there or don't" simple as that.

    Well done.

If an event involves Dags holding an auction, I'll be there rain hail or shine.

Hell, let's just organise an impromptu street corner auction. We'll acquire property from the State and sell it to the masses. A VicFF Robin Hood themed meet.

I think Dags is stuck with the tag "Ultimate Auctioneer" for the rest of his life.

Not that's it's anything I'd ever want to see, but I can imagine the inscription on his tombstone would read...

    Going....

    Going.....

    GONE!

    :)

Ahhhh it's nice to be loved.

POT I'm running auctions every three months at Skyforce meetings so you've been missing quite a lot of them. :)

I'll tell you a funny story. When I'm selling stuff I tend to speak really quickly. One time someone was there with a video camera filming the meeting for their partner who couldn't attend that day.

When I watched the auction footage back even I couldn't work out what I was saying. So I said to the guys
"Do I always sound like that?" and they replied with
"Yep, that's why it's so funny"

All things being equal, I'm not actually a good auctioneer in the strictest sense. What I try to do though is make the auctions a bit more entertaining and sometimes I even amuse myself in them LOL

Any chance to get in front of the microphone. :p
