2002 Winter Holidays Banner contest

With the winter holidays fast approaching, we want to celebrate it with everyone JC style.

It gives us great pleasure to announce the JC 2002 Winter Holidays Banner contest!

We are taking submissions for a winter holiday themed banners from Sunday, Nov. 17 until Thursday, Dec. 12. We're opening the contest up to anyone and everyone.

There will be just ONE winner, chosen by the JC admins. The winning theme will be applied across the whole JC between Sunday, Dec. 15 thru Sunday Jan. 4, 2003.

We are not going to announce the winner prior to December 15 - you will just have to log in to see the winning design on that day.

You can post your entries publically in this thread for advice or suggestions. Final entries should be sent to an admin who we'll name at a later time.

Only one banner submission per user, and there are no limitations on the image content (keeping it all family friendly and within TFN policies of course). But since it's for a JC special occasion, obviously we would love to see ones full of Star Wars and winter holidays imagery (lights, bells, snow, etc).

The winner gets to design themselves a winter themed Icon that they can use for the 3 weeks that their banner is up. They will be VIP'd and given a title. We thought about awarding the winner [hl=indigo][color=white][b]jp-30[/b][/color][/hl]'s custom made landspeeder but the shipping charges would've been too high. In its place, the winner will receive the [link=http://www.theforce.net/profiles/carter/c2_program.jpg]official program[/link] from this summer's Star Wars Celebration II.

So, get cracking and let's see what you can all do. :)

I suppose I should get cracking on this thing...last time I ran into time constraints due to real life problems.

I have great ideas for this thing...hopefully I'll have time to implement them

 

Christmas Banner

This is my first draft.

I took the binary sunset picture, and changed the top sun to the Star of David. That was the star which the Wise Men and the sheperds followed to Bethlehem.

The Star of David needs help and I have to find a new image of the Binary Sunset.

The Pointsetia is there because I needed a nice image to fill in the blank.

 

Does anyone else understand the point of the background? I don't.

 

The background is there to accommodate the various monitor sizes and screen resolutions. Rather than just stretching the image (which would distort it), the background image fills in the space on the right as needed for larger screen settings.

For example, here at home, the banner ends at the right side of Yoda's head. At work, I can see all the way to C3PO (or thereabouts).

Jedi_Master_Mom, your banner is off to a great start. The side strip and the curve need to be fixed and made seamless. You may want to add a few more pics to your banner, background image, and left strip. I really like the bulbs being used as ad holders and I absolutely love the font type. Great work for a first attempt.

BTW...the blue yoda is a great touch. (check my signature)

 

How about a more wintery theme. Snowy trees...maybe some Taun-tauns.

We need some snow for the holidays. Cool winter colors for the text, etc.

 

Should I decide to submit a banner, I want to say right now I am not checking other's entries for ideas.

Well, I have started mine, and I am really proud of it so far. This may be the only time I post it , but I would love some feedback. What do you think so far?

EDIT: I thought I'd add that I'm still looking for a good background. I'm thinking of something on Endor, mainly because of its trees. TFN has this great pic of the trees with fireworks above, which I might use, but I'm still looking.
