Why haven't the dodgers signed Maddux yet? Someone offer the guy a pen.

Probably because he really wants to play for the Cubs and is waiting for them to offer more money.

    Amazing.

From an obituary in yesterday's New York Newsday:

HARRIS-Jeff, age 68, unhappy with Mets post-season's acquisitions and current Rangers goal tending, passed away in his sleep at his home in East Hampton on February 2, 2004.

    I thought it was funny.

    Amazing.

Boy, I guess if that was a real cause of death, we'd all be doomed.

Ellis Burks turns down more money from the M's to play in Boston. Partly because his family is there, partly because he thinks the Sox are closer to a World Series title. Ouch. The truth hurts.

And the M's are close to signing Villone. Why do they need another lefty? Villone's Opponent BA vs lefthanded batters isn't better than the M's bullpen righties.

At least he hasn't hit Otis Nixon or Julio Franco territory yet.

    Amazing.

I don't know if anyone can touch Otis Nixon. That guy started to look like death warmed over towards the end there.

That wouldn't be a good trade for the Dodgers. I remember reading somewhere that Frank Thomas hits much better as a DH, than while playing 1B...

I thought it was the exact opposite...

Yeah, Thomas hits 70 points better while at 1B than at DH. My mistake. I was looking through Moneyball again and found that. So, it could be a good trade...

Art: Probabbly. Plus I doubt his defence is what is needed on a pitching oriented staff

It looks like the dodgers are gonna fire evans and bring in Paul Depodesta. I think its a great move. Maybe he can find someone of value in the yankees system.

BP had an article on Evans, the guys done a damn good job. He's had no salary flexibility because of the previous GM's mistakes. Example Dreifort, Brown, Green, etc... And he helped the assembly of the best pitching staff in baseball.

And I hate Ron Gardenhire. How in the world are you going to give Jose Offerman a bencn/pinch hitting role, when he can't hit anymore? He's going to take a spot from Lew Ford, who damnit could be a productive bench player. I hate the Twin's management, it is so second rate.
