This ain't a social thread, take it to PM.

Hayden/Anakin is such an easy target, always has been, and to be honest it wouldn't matter WHAT actor played Anakin. People have a problem not with the acting style, but with Lucas' direction for that character. Heath Ledger, James Franco... whomever the actor could have been... the problem lies in Lucas' dialog and intent on making the character more human instead of the badass killer most seem to want him to be.

Doesn't the fact they have nominated Tom Cruise for his role in War of the Worlds, for no other reason than they don't like what he's doing in his personal life (that must be the reason for the Worst Actor nod, because he wasn't at all bad in WotW) Call into question this whole things validity?

Basically, it's a just a pathetic, vindictive joke isn't it?

It would be a pathetic vindictive joke if Hayden had been praised for his brilliant acting and still got nominated for a Razzie. He wasn't. Plenty of people hated his performance. Why are people acting all shocked? What did people expect, an Oscar nomination?

His acting was no worse than anyone else's in ROTS. Ewan, Sam and Ian had their craptacular moments as well. More than Hayden, I'd say. His was mostly dialogue.

I notice you didn't address my point about Tom Cruise being nominated for no other reason than they don't like what he is doing in his personal life. That, IMO, is why these things are a pathetic, vindictive joke. Nothing to do with Hayden, though if the nomination for one actor can be called into question, theres no reason all the other nominations can't be questioned, is there?

    Thank you.

The more I read about the film community, the more I consider it a load of self-pretentious CRAP!

Tom Cruise was awful in WOTW and Spielberg should get a directorial razzie for that film.

As for Hayden, putting blame on the dialogue is a cop out - his performance was much improved over AOTC, but not by much. Mark Hamill even owns Christensen. And he's certainly no Ford or McGregor who both had ridiculous dialogue as well, but came off believable.

Star Wars fans shouldn't take it personally...

    Hayden should though. [face_laugh]

Ian and Sam MAYBE, But Ewan, no way. Hayden was pretty poor most of the time. Portman a travesty.

Apart from some off dialogue (the scourge of EVERY Star Wars film), I think Hayden did a fantastic job. I also find it hilarious to hear the old party line about Natalie being awful when folks like Ebert and Roeper actually said that she was amazing and humanized the end of the film. Guess it just proves it's all nothing more than a matter of opinion. [face_plain]

Well who cares what 'film critics' say anyway....
They are just PAID movie goers, nothing more.
I agree though, Natalie was wonderful in the last part of the film.
That's 2 and 3/4 films late IMO, but hey-o, what ya gonna do??

It's just more fuel for our "being a jerk is cool" culture.

That's what how I feel as well. I'm ashamed of our current-day culture.

    James Franco instead of Hayden?

First of all, he's 5'11" - so a little bit short for Vader, and his acting is almost universally bashed in Tristan & Isolde and Annapolis. Example:

"With a bizarre coiffure that makes him look like the lead singer of an '80s New Wave band, Franco flares his nostrils and pouts -- his performance riddled with so many Anakin-ims you'll think he's auditioning for The Hayden Christensen Story. "
    -- Sean Burns, PHILADELPHIA WEEKLY
    Rotten Tomatoes

He can look forward to his Razzie nom next year. ;)

Where are the noms for Paul Walker and Or-Bland-o Bloom? And Cruise deserves all the crap he gets - he thinks he's so above everyone.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks that guy can't act!
If a film he starred in was fire and his acting chops were the water....
    Well, he'd burn big time!

Hayden Christensen gets nominated for Worst Supporting Actor of 2005... The Razzie website should be nominated for Worst Webpage of 2005. GOD, that site is slow.

What I don't get, is why is he nominated for Worst Supporting Actor for a lead role?

And besides. The Razzies are just a joke anyway. Remember last year? They gave Worst Actor to George Bush for Farenheit 9/11!

    Slimy!
