Roch, NY 2006 Conventions

So what cons (if any) are folks thinking of attending next convention season (April-Sept)?

We're planning on:
Pittsburgh Comicon
Fan Expo 2006 (what I normally call CNSFX)

I would've liked to have gone to Motor City Comic Con, but I'll be too pregnant for that much travelling. But - Carrie Fisher's going to be there!

No Dragon*Con for us this time as the baby will be too young to leave with grandparents.

I don't think we'll be doing Toronto Trek 20 or Shore Leave 29 (both on the same weekend) this year either as the baby will be too little and both seem Stargate SG-1 heavy and I never got into that show.

I was just curious what other folks might be doing...

As it stands right now, this is what I'm planning:

Farpoint

Lumos 2006 (Harry Potter)

Dragon Con

Chiller Theater Expo (October)

Creation Con (Sg-1)

I'm also toying with the idea of Pittsburgh Comic Con and possibly NY Comic Con. I'd have to leave for Comic Con after work on Friday and I didn't want to drive alone. So if anyone else is interested let me know...we'll chat.

There may be a couple more...but right now this is all I can think of off the top of my head.

Right now my only real Con set in stone at this point...and I'm about 80% sure of it is CNSFX. I have the weekend of the cons off but I am leaning more towards CNSFX based on its close proximity and the ability to see Shatner.

Its William Frickin Shatner.

Prolly Pitt too.

 

Unfortunately, Dragon*Con will start listing their guests any day now, while CNSFX won't until May (if the follow the same pattern as the last 4 years at least).

In the past it didn't matter (and won't for 2006 for us either) but if they keep scheduling them the same weekend it's going to become a real annoyance.

Just thought I'd post a quick note. My tenative convention list might be changing...a lot as I have no transpertation.

 

I've put in for DCON/CNSFX whichever I choose weekend off.

Lumos I cant put in for yet until I know our travel plans...

 

Mark May 12th on your calendars as the day to start checking out CNSFX's site for media guest announcements. Of course they've already privately announced William Shatner & Leonard Nimoy to their mailing list. I can post those ticket prices if folks are interested (and if I can find where I put that mailer...).

Fortunately the only person on their guest list that I haven't seen already is Marc Singer (I liked his character on V) and also fortunately he does quite a few cons so hopefully I'll catch him at some point.

Mark July 1st on your calendars - that's when tickets for Fan Expo (aka CNSFX) go on sale online. Or at least that's what it says on their website. It seems sort of odd to start the sale on the Saturday of a holiday weekend, but then again I guess it's not a Canadian holiday.

Dude Charles Band is awesome he is the guy that made the trancers series....this is really tough I love those flicks....then again hanging out in Toronto might be cool Aye...Hoser Take off..... Lets get some Jelly Doughnuts...

 

For Firefly/Serenity fans: Adam Baldwin & Summer Glau are now on the Dragon*Con guest list.

I just hope the CNSFX guest list is really awesome once they announce it next month...

This Friday (12th) at 1pm is when the media guests should be announced for Fan Expo 2006. We'll then have to wait until May 16th at 1pm for the comic guests to be announced. So sometime after the 16th we'll probably determine how many days we'll be attending the con.

Don't forget - the whole cast of Firefly/Serenity including Joss was supposed to be at D*Con last year and only 4 actually made it (Inara, Kaylee, Jayne & Book). So things might change between now and Sept.

Just spent a little time "drooling" over the D*Con guest list...
It's too bad it's too long a trip with the little ones. It's looking like we might not make another Dragon*Con until 2010 at this rate.

2008 = Disney SWW
2009 = CV
2010 = D*Con
2011 = CVI

Yup, we've got our vacations booked for the 5+ years (assuming we can afford them)...

If anyone goes to a Con this summer and there are GOJIRA SONY DVD Promo Posters being handed out, please grab at least one or as many as you can get for me. It says GOJIRA on it. That is the original name for Godzilla. I think it is black and white. I heard they are being sent to CONs. Thanks
