I am so annoyed that Sharapova didn't get knocked out in the first round, would have been a great upset.

I hope James Blake and the Scottish player Andy Murray do well!

Anyone else think that Serena Williams' dress was hideous and was, as the press speculated, a scam to 'mask' the ball...?

Monfils defeats Bahgdatis, a very entertaining match

That was a good one, Monfils is unorthodox to say the least.

Safin also won, another 5-setter. I hope he picks his game up a bit.

Ah, good, there's actually a thread in here already. Tennis is a good sport. :p

I heard about that Monfils match, although I didn't see any of it. I wish I had now. Wayne Arthurs won as well on the Australian front. As well, today Molik won in a 3-setter. It was a pretty good comeback as she got pretty swiped in that first set.

Everybody's been saying Federer will win, which is fair enough; but who do you think will be in the final with him? Let's lay down some guesses before the third round matches.

    I'll say Nalbandian.

Nah Nalbandian is past his prime, I say it will be either Roddick or Nadal, typical answers I know, but we'll see in under 2 weeks time.

Either he has been knocked out and I didn't realise it or they will have to meet each other before the final, I assume it's the latter, which I discovered it is. Fine then, Nadal will face Federer.

I think Murray will beat Nadal. Tursonov is an extremely underrated player, he always seems to draw Federer or Nadal early though.

The magic of Gael Monfils is gone.

The saddest thing today though was Arthurs' departure. :( :( What an unlucky way to go out of his last Aus Open. I didn't see it live, but oh boy.

    :(

It was painful watching him try to keep playing, even though his leg was shot. I felt so sorry for the bloke. Hopefully he can come around again for one last try, but I doubt it :(

Hewitt's gone, Molik is gone. I don't think there's an Aussie left for singles. :(

Nalbandian really toughed it out. Down two sets, 4-5 in the third, love forty on his serve (i.e. down three match points) and he came back to win in 5. Sweet. The interesting thing is, Grosjean (his opponent) actually did nearly the exact same thing a few years back against Clement.

I didn't see it, but that sounds like him.

Roddick had a battle today. Also, Mardy Fish made it through - he's the only non-seed left in the tournament. Could be a dark horse. The score between him and Roddick will be interesting in the next round, especially after Roddick's five-setter.

    They will be good. :D

Clijster's has just won her match pretty convincingly. She's the favourite to win the Women's now, and that's actually exactly where I'd put my money.

Nalbandian has the first set against Haas. The other match just started.

The match between Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray was brilliant to watch! I wish I had stayed up for the whole match but it was 12:30 in the morning... Andy did well to stretch it out to 5 sets!

It sure looks like he will - he's quite close to it already.

Fish was smashed out of the water. Federer has just got himself up two sets to one in his match being played at this very moment. I think he'll beat Roddick pretty easily in the semi's next up. Just a hunch.

Shahar Peer was so close. Oh so close to defeating Williams. I wish she had to be honest. And I'm actually looking forward to the result of the Clijsters/Hingis match in the women's draw tomorrow.

Actually, Federer's up 2 sets to 0. Got an ealry break in the 3rd to go up 2-0, but Robredo broke right back. They're on serve at 3-3 in the 3rd det now.

I haven't watched much tennis lately, what are the chances that someone will beat Federer on a surface other than clay.

In a perverse way I'm rooting for Roddick to make it to the final against Federer so that Federer can humiliate him once more. (or the semis if that's where theiy're slotted to meet).

My mind said zero but for some reason I typed one. My mistake. [face_blush]

Roddick and Federer meet in the semi's, yankee. Roddick is already there waiting for Federer. It's on serve in the third at 6-5 currently.
