2008 WSOP Main Event

well so its that time of year again, where thousands of hopefuls sit down, all with the dream of walking away with the Main Event title.

I think I read somewhere that they're going to play the Main Event down to the final table, and then put it on hold until closer to when it airs on ESPN. Decent idea to try to build up more interest.

 

yeah they going to wait until November to play the final table. If thats he case they may show the final table live on ESPN

 

Every year these things appen and look for the same in 2008.

At least one bg name pro makes the final table.
A few other prminent pros make it deep (top 100)and some lesser known pros
A no name will likely win it all
At least one crazy character will beome well known.

 

I think waiting until months later to play the final table increases the odds that a professional will finally win it again. As long as one makes the final table, they won't have to worry about the media, the pressure, and the fame going to their head. Plus, the "fatigue" factor that, I think, hurts the better players more, will be gone when you take a few months off.

 

but waiting 4 months diminishes the hype, people will forget about it. I think the should ait a week

 

People won't be forgetting about it because during those 4 months or whatever, ESPN will show a few hours worth almost every day, driving non-poker players up a wall.

Yeah, if anything this will build the hype, because you won't have the results published on ESPN.com months before a single hand is shown on television.

 

alright so 2 days done and soe notable eliminations are Daniel Negraneau, Jamie Gold, Humberto Brenes.I dont' take much stock in the first few days because the early chip leaders never go that far.

 

the total number of participants this is year is just above 6,800 which is 500 more than last year. The poker recession is not here yet.

Also, Phil Hellmuth survived Day 1!

No, Im just excited because he never does well in the main event and I want top pros to do well.

Is he in good shape among those remaining, or on the edge?

 

fairly good shape not far behind the leaders. Leader has 670,000 he has 400,000

 

Not too bad.

Of course, since what gets shown on ESPN all the time is the late stuff, those both seem like small chip amounts

 

they start with 20,000. But yeah at the final table they have ridicuolous amounts


other big name pros still around are:

Mike the mouth Matusow

 

My, My, My...Is Gus Hansan still around...Maybe another deep run again this year for him. Although I doubt this event will be won by a pro weather it's played out or stopped til November. Holdem is such an over rated game that I still can't see why this is still the game of choice when it comes to being the main event. Horse should be the the main event...now that's a test of a true poker player all-round.


Although if I have to go with a pro to win this...then I would have To go with the "Brat" Phil Hellmuth.


By the way what's the deal with the black letters covering your writting?

 

Its a way of semi-hiding 'spoilers', in case some people don't want to know. Probably not necessary for this thread, though.

 

I appreciate the HTR stuff. Since it won't be on TV for a few months.

 

Holdem is such an over rated game that I still can't see why this is still the game of choice when it comes to being the main event


I agree that it can be a lottery sometimes. Especially in the early rounds, thats why so many pros go out on Day 1. But if a pro gets past the money bubble, which they have now, they have a
good shot because the quality poker only gets better as the tournamnet goes on.

 

hellmuth knocked out in 45th place. mike matusow is still in, but not too many other top pros. tiffany michelle currently has the fourth highest chip count. i think it would be really cool to see a woman make the final table.

 

Im pretty dissapointed that both Hellmuth and Matusow went out proir to the final 3 tables. This will be the first time that I don't recognize anybody in the final 27. Not even any minor pros.

Brandon Cantu won a televised bracelet in 06 (1,500 NLH), plays some high stakes games, I know who he is. Tiffany Michelle is an interviewer for Pokernews.com and plays a good deal as well. Plus she's kind of hot. I know who she is.

Those are the names that I recognize off the top of my head. I'm sure if I spent a few minutes on the Hendon Mob, there might be one or two more, who I'd know.
