The Irish started their fall training on Saturday. Heck of a day to start training when the heat index was well over 100. I guess they got a taste of what the southern schools have to go through every year.

Maybe that is the secret to the SEC's recent dominance in college football - might be a harbinger of good things for the Irish.

ESPN.com just published an article ranking the conferences - the poor Big Ten still gets no respect.

They don't deserve any respect right now. It seems that the SEC and Big 12 are the darling conferences in NCAA football.

Agreed - sending Ohio State to a BCS bowl as fodder for the SEC, Big 12, or USC just doesn't cut it. I like to think the Big Ten is just in a down cycle, but I'm having trouble seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe it is just selective memory? In other words, I'd be interested to see the bowl results for all the major-conference teams over the last 10 years or so. Is it a situation where the top team in the SEC (usually Florida) is dominating their opponents, while the other SEC teams are around .500 in bowl games? And in the Big Ten, does Ohio State just fall flat in January, while the other teams in the conference are winning their bowls? I simply don't know.

Looks like Weis's knee is good enough that he can stand thru a whole game this year.

Lou Holtz is on crack. When he was coach he would always under promise and over-deliver. I see that he has since changed his attitude.

Anyone who believes this team will win 12 games hasn't seen the program since Lou left. The argument Holtz presents leaves out the fact that Notre Dame has an uncanny ability to throw away games they should have won.

Yes, this team is returning most of their starters, but so did the 2006 team, and we saw how that turned out. Too much potential, not enough execution.

The only football related news that I have is that members of the Michigan football team crashed a wedding I was at last night. That was.. interesting, if not entertaining..

I remember with ND went through NCAA investigation in the mid-90's. Rod looked very angry, or guilty.

Even I agree with that - they'd really have to ball things up to only win 8 games with that schedule. I predict a BCS bowl game (thanks to overranking due to the soft schedule), but a humiliating loss to whatever SEC or Big XII team they play. It'll be enough for Weis to keep his job, but not with a solid foundation for the years to come.
