I've concluded that watching the U.S. play some of these games is going to inevitably give me an ulcer.

Saw a little bit of the game today while at lunch... USA comfortably in control, but again I wasn't too impressed with the defense. Looked kinda like NBA All-Star game defense, which is to say, nonexistent.

True. Though I can't say too much, since I haven't actually seen very much :p

Turnovers. That is all you need to know. It really is "all-star-ish-ness" at its best... they've got to get the flow of being together going before I won't be cringing at every pass attempt. :p

The US beat Tunisia pretty badly once they decided to play. I was hoping that Tunisia would keep it mostly close, since I've been there and like it (well, not the shawarma sandwich, but that's a story for another time :p ) but it wasn't too be.

    Probably true. :p

The US plays Angola on September 6.

I don't know if "play" was the right adjective. Destroy might have been a better choice. US is playing the winner of Russia/New Zealand on Thursday. No matter who wins that game, the US will have a little more of a challenge. Angola's style played right into some of the strengths of the US - that zone Angola used just didn't work.

I'm having trouble believing that this tournament is held in the same level as the Olympic tournament. :p It's certainly not here, but I don't think it is internationally. There have been a ton of empty seats in all of the games I've watched...that's usually a good indicator.

Spain is gone, ousted today by Serbia. They just never looked quite right in the tournament.

Can't say I'm disappointed about this - they won the World Cup this summer, so it was time for them to share the world championship trophies around. :p

Russia and the U.S. are tied at 25 at the end of the first quarter. Come on, U.S.A.!

Its fine for those able to watch the game, but for those who can't watch it, there was room for confusion :p

US up 63-50 in the third :)

I'm having to settle for the update screen from fiba.com ... pretty low quality, but it keeps me updated on the score so I can't complain too much :p

I'm sticking with ESPN.com. Yep, I'm one of those people without ESPN3.

USA up by 13 with less than 2 to go (in the game, R...J :p).

So, I was looking at ESPN's box score for the game, and Russell Westbrook had 12 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 assist despite playing 0 minutes. [face_laugh] Somebody messed something up there. :p

eh, I ignore the "minutes" column on ESPN box scores regularly. I've seen them too many times where apparently nobody played a single minute :p

FIBA's website has the actual minutes. I just want to lol @ ESPN for a minute, though. :p

Lithuania took out Argentina today, really clearing out the USA's path to gold. There's no way they should lose to Lithuania, Serbia, or Turkey.
