I wanted to answer the rest of this question:
what was the original amount you were thinking it would cost?

I really didn't know when I first volunteered for this. I had to think about what materials I had on hand as well as the desired quality of the final build. Then, I started researching builds that had been done. The only two that I saw that looked "quality" were 1 static one, and this mobile foam one. Each has some pros and cons:

    Static Build:

    Pros:
    - I have a lot of 2x4s that I could donate that could be used to make the skeleton framework
    - It won't require a person to operate it
    - Fairly straightforward design using 2x4s, chicken wire, fiberglass and foam, then covered with fur fabric

    Cons:
    - Static. Non-moving. Not interactive.
    - Would need fiberglass to give it strength
    - Possibly heavy. It could be built with 2 halves, to allow for transport, but it would be heavy.

    Mobile Build

    Pros:
    - Mobile!
    - Interactive!
    - Lighter weight
    - Same amount of fur fabric used as the static build
    - Possibly easier to transport because it is flexible

    Cons:
    - Requires an operator
    - Requires purchase of stilts --and a victim... er... operator willing to use stilts
    - Cost ?might? be higher than static build

With either build, I have garage space that could be used to make it, and store it. And I only live about a half hour from Darth Hair and Sith Chick, so it's not that much further of a drive. ;) And I have a propane heater that I can use to make it slightly warmer than the hangar at WOTR (not sure if they'd let us do a build there, anyways.)

I hope this helps. If somesone sees a better way to do it, I'm all ears.

If you need Joann's coupons you need to sign up for their mailing list at either their website or by going into a store and requesting a form. They usually have at least one 40% off coupon a month that they send out and sometimes they have coupons in the stores you can pic up as well. Some stores even have extra fliers laying around with the coupons in them. Hope this helps.

They even have an app now. I saw on my email where I can just show them my coupon on my phone, too.

I will not be marching in the parade this year due to an outside commitment, so I have a couple of costumes that folks can wear if they want:

    Hoth Rebel Trooper
    Snowtrooper or Snowclone (same boots)
    Imperial Crew
    Endor Rebel Trooper

Pants and shirts are both men's XL. Panst will fit up to 38" waist x32 inseam or so, and size 10.5 boots. If you want to wear a costume, LMK and I'll make arrangements to get it to you.

And as an FYI, there are at least 18 signed up so far at the Mountain garrison for the informal (non-canon) entry. And 11 for the formal entry. So it's looking like a pretty good crowd so far.

I'd love to borrow the Endor Rebel Trooper if it's still available.

It's yours. Would you drop me a PM with your address? I'll drop it off on my way home from work --as we get closer to the parade date.

It's official. I am not going. Funny thing, nobody at work wants to trade a tuesday off for a saturday, go figure.

Unless someone wants to volunteer to be auntie for the day, Bean won't be coming either.

I wish you all the best.

I might need a little help pulling together something for my nieces. Thanks to a bum leg, I don't feel safe driving the float, so my Baby Brother stepped and is bringing the girls. I told them they could only ride in the float if they wore a costume, otherwise they had to stay inside the truck. [face_devil][face_skull]

I *might* be able to get my hands on my old brown Jedi robe, Zoo. I'll look into it ASAP. It is also a suitable color for a Jawa, but it's not ratty/woven.

I could likely get a Jawa bandy or Padawan belt put together for ya if need be, say the word.

I believe that makes it unanimous from the South Side Crew... Should we carpool?
