What: Autism Awareness Walk
When: Saturday April 27, 2013
Where: Summit Educational Resources - 150 Stahl Road, Getzville
Time: Check in 9am Opening Ceremony/Walk 10am Post Walk Picnic 11:30am


Queen City Bookstore referred the organizer to us this week. We have been approached to make an appearance at the walk and help promote the event.

In addition to this appearance, one of the team captains is working to plan a separate appearance at a fund raiser in the near future.

We are not asked to walk, but simply appear. We can change in their building and have a table and area to promote the group as well as set up photo ops. I offered to request donations and see if we can't raise a few more dollars to help.

I am considering walking in costume, but have not made a decision yet. if I do, I will try and request a set dollar amount in donations from friends, family and other sources.

Who is interested? This should be a fairly easy appearance and allow for those working on new costumes to get a chance to try them in an event setting. Please be advised that some autistic children may be a little scared of us.

I'm also somewhat inclined to ask where there is a Star Wars tie in on this event. I realize I'm not available, but that is a valid question...

 

I'm sorry to say that I won't be available for this event. It sounds great.

This is my kids' birthday weekend and we will be having family time that day.

 

It's a charity reaching out to us to help promote awareness, entertain the walkers, and help raise some funds if we can.

 

Sounds like a valid request to me. We've done many charity events with no Star Wars connection. I hope we continue to do so!

 

I didn't question the validity of the request, I asked where the Star Wars tie in was. I'd really hate to see us wear out our welcome as some other groups have by appearing anywhere and everywhere at the drop of a hat.

I just never want to overhear from someone in the crowd "Oh no, it's those Star Wars people again" when I do a local event.

 

Checking my schedule, I might be able to help with this one.

There won't be a table at this event. We have been asked to appear in costume to entertain.

Nice Chris. Just checked out the page. What is the difference between donating to you or to the general group?

 

I didn't see the option to remove me. It appears that to register with a group, you have to start as an individual. I'd prefer any donations go the team account. All monies collected go directly to Summit and we do not need to collect anything.
