Related news. Metropolis Superman Celebration announced today one of their guests this Summer would be comic artist Chris Sprouse. He's done a lot of work for DC but we know him as the artist for the Dark Horse Comic Adaptation of "Splinter of the Mind's Eye". How's that for timely?

Related to the related news...comic artist Carmine Infantino died last week. He had a VERY long career and did most of his work for DC but he also did a very long run on the very early Marvel Star Wars comics that I grew up with. Comics were our largest source for new Star Wars while we waited for ESB so I read and re-read and memorized those comics he drew. He was a guest at the 2010 Superman Celebration so I got to meet him, thank him for his Star Wars work and get some stuff signed. Really nice gentleman.

That is cool you got to meet him. He had some great work in those old marvel issues.

No, not Tennessee, the Metropolis Superman Celebration is in Metropolis Illinois, just across the river from Paducah.

Interesting rough draft. I haven't read all of it yet, but with Splinter of the Minds Eye fresh in my, well, mind, it is kinda cool in a 70s way. Plus, it (or some draft like it) will be made into a comic soon!

It's neat seeing the themes and plot points that show up in later movies.
I like that Dark Horse is showing no fear and just going all out with their Star Wars license even though many think Disney won't renew and send the license "in-house" to Marvel.

So, I thought it would be awesome to read Joseph Conrad's classic "Heart of Darkness" before rereading this month's book Star Wars: Shatterpoint. Well. It wasn't. I'm maybe 2/5th into Shatterpoint, but I can finish 300 pages by the weekend. Shatterpoint's plot is heavily inspired by Conrad's work-- but it really didn't add much. Besides, if you have watched Apolocypse Now (also biased on Heart of Darkness but with cameo by Harrison Ford) then you can also catch the allusions in Shatterpoint plus save yourself a lot of time.

 

I hope Appo and I can make this.... it's looking shady right now. We've got our fingers crossed.

BOOK CLUB IS POSTPONED, NO BOOK CLUB FOR TODAY JUNE 7th.
We will just find another day to do when we can all be together.

 

This works out fine our way gang..... we're swamped with domestic duties and running against a clock. We're still running along great though... What is it? Four years and this is only the second time? I'd say that's pretty fan-nominal. We'll get this together soon I'm sure. This is only the first of June, we have the whole month to choose another day.

 

How does Friday June 21 look to our book club gurus? If mindtwister is to believed that's also the 5 year anniversary of the re-emergence of the Louisville Galactic Alliance. We could maybe add a short meal after our normal book club?

Jammies is sick and can't make this Friday and has suggested the week after Friday the 28th for Book Club. I'm good with that. I know Jammies has been wanting to discuss Shatterpoint for quite a while.
