Me too. Arrival was the superior movie but the wrong genre. Vile genre-based discrimination remains the ugly side of Awards season.

Good chance La La Land wins 13 of those awards. Gosling might be the only one who doesn't win for that movie.

Could be a rough year for the ratings for the show. There's no movie that had a large box office like The Martian or Gravity or The Revenant. La La Land and Hidden Figures should cross $100M but that's about it. A lot of those Best Picture noms are small films.

La La Land will sweep the awards because it's a musical. I have never and I doubt will ever understand the love of musicals. Got a story? Great...why the **** do you stop the story mid-stream and ****ing sing about it? That has never made sense to me.

I've seen all the Best Picture noms except Hacksaw Ridge. I wouldn't mind a Moonlight, Hell or High Water, or Arrival win.

Some musicals have really fun, memorable music, melodies that get embedded in pop culture for generations. This is not the case with La La Land.

I've got a lot of movies to watch, of the best picture nominations I've only seen La La Land and Moonlight. Moonlight is by far the better film of those two. La La Land was fine but outside of Emma Stone I don't really understand all the award love.

The only category I feel strongly about is Casey Affleck winning Lead Actor for Manchester By The Sea. If he is passed over, it'll be an injustice.

the sex offender? I think he may be in trouble.

I'm glad Dev Patel is back at the Oscars. He is one of my favorites.

Sex offenders. This explains DC love! :p

EDIT: Also, Mel Gibson directed Hacksaw Ridge? That was kept pretty quiet...

It was? I knew that he directed it, and I am pretty clueless when it comes to entertainment news. For example, I had no idea what you were talking about re: Casey Affleck, until I looked it up.

I'm at a disadvantage because, to the best of my knowledge, I've only seen two of the movies that have been nominated for anything: "Rogue One" and "Zootopia". I have nothing against the others; it's just that I had more important things to spend my money on.

By the way, it took me several minutes to try and remember which movie won Best Picture last year. (It was "The Revenant", right?) Anyone else have that problem?
