Am I the only who thinks this thread is messed up? Understood that a newbie shouldn't walk in and express their opinions about what's been going on for a while. You were here before me and existing just fine.

But seriously? I read your posts in other threads, respecting your outlooks. The striking incongruity with those threads next to this one is just too much.

 

Christopher Reeve was also not Christopher Walken.

 

I too am appalled at the elastic definition of celebrity employed by posters here.

You're missing the point. I don't need to know the details of someone's life to understand the complexities and intricacies that I don't know. I don't need to know someone to understand their individuality. Slowpoke is acting as though there is nothing more to Kidder than Lois Lane.

 

eh, she was famous primarily for playing lois lane. it's on that basis we know who she is, hence discussing her death, as opposed to all the other millions of people who die every day. i don't see the issue.

 

I wonder how many people in here even gave a second's thought to Carrie Fisher's other roles besides Leia at the time she passed away.

 

None of the rest of us are (unironically) just calling her Lois Lane though. There's a disconnect, there. There's a difference between acknowledging what someone is known for and defining them by that thing alone.

Also, not that it's relevant, but like 150-200K people die a day; nowhere near millions.
