David Lynch for Twin Peaks Part 8 Best Directing!

Oh and Jessie Plemmons in that Black Mirror episode (only one I watched cuz Star Trek) was legit great.

And Barry for comedy but I would be totally okay if Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt won too

What the hell is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel? I've never even heard of this show before but apparently it's the greatest comedy.

I guess that's what happens when there's ~1,000 shows now. Half of these nominees you've never heard of before.

It's by the woman who did Gilmore Girls.

Anyway, Henry Winkler finally won a well-deserved Emmy. So I'm happy.

I love that they they announce nominees while the previous winner is walking off the stage. It feels like the show is constantly moving.

I don’t care about the Emmy’s all that much. But next year I do hope Succession is nominated for several awards

So if I'm remembering correctly, "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" took home 4 Emmy's so I guess maybe I should check it out. Anyone ever watch it?

Nope. But I think most people will remember the proposal from last night rather than the awards themselves this year.

    Things I learned last night

    • Actress Rachel Brosnahan played Rachel Posner in House of Cards.
    • The top hat wasn't doing Amy Sherman-Palladino any favors.
    • Letitia Wright (Black Panther's Shuri) was in Black Mirror.
    • I'm glad Black Mirror got some love, but I didn't think USS Callister was that great. There are episodes MUCH better than that one.
    • I'm glad Thandie Newton won for Westworld.
    • Michael Che and Colin Jost were essentially doing their Weekend Update tambor the entire show. That's not really hosting.
    • Fred Armisen is fantastic and he needs a new gig.

I watched the pilot episode about a year ago, when it was discussed on the now defunked Collider "TV Talk" as the panel raved about it. I thought the pilot was nice, but I wasn't hooked on the show. However, I will say it's beautifully shot and the retro look of the characters and clothing are on point. The pilot episode starts off with the titular character achieving a "Stepford Wife" kind of status and therefore admired by her peers, friends and family. And then, not so much. Maisel has to find herself and a voice in a man's world.

Even though I wasn't hooked, I always meant to continue to watch the series as it always received high praise. There's just so much content out there to watch.

I didn't know the Awards were on last night - saw the listing this morning. I wonder what kind of ratings the show got.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a fantastic show. I've watched the whole thing. The writing is amazing, the acting is even better, the stories are engaging, and the family drama feels so authentic. The strangest thing about the show, though, is that the standup comedy itself isn't the slightest bit funny. It's the classic problem of metadrama, of watching simulations of people performing on stage. In the same way that there's no evidence whatsoever that the "Brutus is an Honorable Man" speech in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar would ever actually persuade anyone of anything other than the audience watching the play that they'd witnessed an authentic simulation of people being persuaded, would Mrs. Maisel's standup routines actually make anyone laugh? I bet they weren't field tested to find out.

There's something about seeing Charlie Brooker winning an Emmy that's both bizarre to me and cathartic as hell.

I've been a fan of his ever since he was a TV critic writing for The Guardian, so seeing him get recognised as a writing talent two years in a row is brilliant news.

I've 6 of the 7 nom s for best drama, and while I like it, GoT was probably the fifth best to me. Hype goes a long way.

Nice to see Barry nab some awards, I enjoyed it.

I can't help but feel The Handmaid's Tale was robbed.

Merritt Wever was quite shocked when she won. "I'm bombing already" made me chuckle. I later realized that she was the doctor that got shot in the eye with an arrow on The Walking Dead. Probably the best thing to ever happen to her. I guess she was semi famous before TWD, but I have never heard of her, nor have I watched any of the show for which she won - Godless. Glad she got off that **** show that is TWD.

It was also nice to see Darren Criss win an Emmy since I've only ever know him at "that guy on Glee".

I watched the first few episodes of The assassination of Gianni Versace, starring Darren Criss (who I too have only ever known him as that guy on Glee). The first two episodes were a bit of a grind to get through, but the third or fourth episodes is where things picked up at Darren Criss' character is much like Matt Damon's Talented Mr. Ripley but more calculating and psychopathic. So, I'm not surprised he got nominated and actually won the award.
