Awards 2018 FanFic Awards Ceremony **Day 8 - Authors**

Congrats to all the winners, and everyone else who participated too.

To be honest, I had been a bit worried when Holdo had volunteered to get Rey glammed up for the awards, but the outfit she had chosen suited Rey perfectly.

She wore a sleeveless purple dress with gold trim, and matching shoes.

Her hair was pulled back in a simple French braid tied with a purple ribbon, and a sparkly barrette held her bangs out of her face. She was beautiful.

Day 2

We return from the break to see two identical men walk out onto the stage from either side. One is wearing a suit and the other is wrapped in a grey shawl. They look at each other and frown.

MATT SANTOS: The organizers of this event failed to inform me I was going to be fulfilling my duties with an impersonator. I was told my partner was going to be a senator.

BAIL ORGANA: I am a senator.

The men shake hands as they introduce each other.

BAIL: Senator Bail Organa of Alderaan.

MATT: Former President of the United States of America Matthew Santos.

BAIL: America? I am unfamiliar with that planet. It isn’t part of the Empire, is it?

MATT: Empire? Americans were the original rebels! I am part of the Non-Star Wars delegation.

Suddenly, another man, much younger but similar in appearance rolls out onto stage in a wheelchair. He’s wearing a Hamilton t-shirt under a blazer.

ELVIE SANTOS: Raise a glass to freedom!

MATT: Should have seen that Hamilton reference coming.

Elvie looks from Matt to Bail, then back again.

ELVIE: Daaaad? There are two of you. Why are there two of you? This is freaking me out. This is like the worse day ever.

MATT: Two of me isn’t the worst thing to have happened.

BAIL: Shall we get on with this? I’m sure we both have more pressing matters to attend to.

MATT: Former presidents really can’t do much (unfortunately). Now, did they give you the envelopes?

BAIL: No. Stars, where’s Sheltay when you need her?

MATT: I know. I’d be lost without Ronna.

ELVIE: That’s why they let me out here.

Elvie hands them the envelopes and all turn to the audience.

MATT: This year, The Fanfic Awards decided to hold the Non-Star Wars awards after a several year hiatus. These awards will be presented along side their Star Wars counterpoints.

ELVIE: But first! STAR WARS! Man, Leo is going to be so jealous I got to do this!

BAIL: We are here to present the Best Storyline Categories.

ELVIE: Because two of you in the same room is the worst storyline.

BAIL: Is he always like this?

Matt nods.

BAIL: Precisely why my wife and I wanted a girl.

Elvie steals the envelopes back.

May I be damned...a five-way tie?! I know that my behaviour regarding this is not quite appropriate, but I'm laughing at myself, not you. Because I thought that four would be the maximum, come yesterday.

Personally I'm just shocked to even see any of my stories *nominated* at all let alone in multiple categories! To those of you who went to bat for a newbie, thank you!

 

Wow, I am sincerely humbled by you folks here on the boards and the nominations And Then There Were None has received. Never expected to have placed as a winner - let alone in a four way tie! I know I'm not really an active member on the forum, and am embarrassed to admit I have not been able to read many of the stories posted here (It's hard enough finding the time to write!) but thank you all for your comments, criticisms, votes - and thanks to the staff for their constant efforts in maintaining an active fanfiction community.

More importantly, congratulations to the other winners and nominees!

I'm very honored; tbh, Cold Truce was a one-off from a long while ago, and it's very flattering to receive a Golden Porg (TM).

(... hopefully, though, Lady Maladi will understand if I skip the soup. I'm allergic to death. )

 

Rinoa, Squall Zell, Tidus, and Yuna accept the award for Best Alternate Universe (NSWFF) for Love Don't Die.

Rinoa, wearing a long blue dress, whispers to Zell as they walk on stage. “Where’s Squall?”

Zell, with spiky blond bangs and his formal SeeD uniform, replies, “He told me I could come in his place!”

Rinoa sighs. “Of course he did.”

They meet the other two of their group at the podium. Yuna has on a delicately embroidered floor-length purple skirt and a white blouse with pink ombre angel sleeves. Tidus is wearing turquoise shorts and a bright yellow blazer with nothing underneath.

Rinoa takes a deep breath before leaning toward the mic. Zell snatches the mic before she can speak.

“First, I’d like to thank all our friends and instructors at Balamb Garden. We couldn’t have done it without you!"

Zell does a backflip and punches the air, mic in hand.

"Then, I’d really like to thank my Ma. You made me who I am today!”

As Zell continues, Tidus leans in toward Rinoa and Yuna. “Let’s see…two minutes divided by five winners, and there's four of us…we’re not going to get to say anything, are we?”

Rinoa shakes her head, looking slightly relieved.

Zell is tearing up as his speech continues. “When I think about what it would be like if you weren’t around, Ma….”

“Boy loves his Ma,” Tidus comments quietly.

Rinoa and Yuna each nod with a wistful smile.

“He’s got a Ma and no Pa. If we could all be so lucky, amirite?” Tidus nudges Rinoa and she responds with an enthusiastic nod. Yuna gasps a little and Tidus and Rinoa turn to see her look of horror at his statement.

“Just kidding!” Tidus replies, putting his arm around Yuna.

“I think our time is up…” Rinoa tugs at Zell’s sleeve. He doesn’t budge. It takes all three of them to pry the mic from his hands and drag Zell off stage.

Seconds after they disappear behind the curtain, Tidus returns holding a blue and white ball in his hands. He tosses the ball high into the air, then leaps up after it, performing several full rotations before kicking the ball with enormous power. Several people in the audience have to duck before the ball bounces off the back wall and straight into the air.

“Thanks for nothing, Dad!” Tidus yells as he trots off the stage.

The people here are what make this my favorite place to read and write fanfic (even if it is non-SW work on a SW board)!

 

What? A four way tie? Inconceivable! Rarified air, indeed. I am honored to have been nominated and to have won. Thank you to those who voted! That vignette was a blast to write.

Congratulations to the Best Storyline winners and my, another tie!! It's indicative of the wealth of imagination on these boards that make visiting so pleasurable to fans of Star Wars and Non-Star Wars stories.

It's a little confusing why Sir W.R. Hamilton and his "function that is used to describe a dynamic system (such as the motion of a particle) in terms of components of momentum and coordinates of space and time and that is equal to the total energy of the system when time is not explicitly part of the function — compare Lagrangian to Hamiltonian" (per Merriam-Webster) merits a T shirt, but it's always interesting to learn more about mathematics!

Very much enjoying reading this thread and making a list of stories to read once I defend my doctorate in a few weeks. Also, thanks for throwing a few noms my way. Very kind. I look forward to returning to fun writing soon. In the meantime, can't wait to read more of this fun awards ceremony. This community is great!
