Just a reminder to you SF going bods out there that the Westgarth 24 hour Science Fiction movie marathon is coming up on December 14.

If you've never been to one before, you don't know what you're missing. They've got lots of oldies, newies and dodgy movies all up for viewing.

So if you're a REAL SF fan, there's only one place to be on that day, night, day.

    Be seein' ya there.

I'll be in town on the 14th, but I can't guarantee I'll be in any way sober.

Oh well, if this proves to be popular with my fellow Forumers, I'll be there.

    Personally, I think it's a great idea.

No better way to catch up on my SF then by spending a day with my fellow forum goers. It will probably lead me to insanity, but hey, it's bound to happen at one time or another...

    Sounds great!

    Where is it at?

What movies have they played in the past?

    How much does it cost?

Sounds good(ish)... I think 24hrs is a bit too much for me though, I might make an appearance then slink off with PoT to our drinking holes again...

What movies are playing??? Ahhhh lots of them, some old and some new. There's around 13 films in total - good to catch up on the ones you missed. I'll see if I can get a list, but who cares what's on, it's the occasion that counts.

Where is it? Westgarth Cinema (formally the Valhalla) in High St Northcote

Time: 7:30am on Saturday to 7:30am on Sunday. BYO sleeping gear

Price: Depends on how many films you want to see, but it's around $35 for all of them - which equates to under $3 per movie - cheaper than video hire

Ironically considering how good the whole event is, only myself and my other half are dedicated annual 24hr marathon goers. Last year I didn't know a single person in the whole audience except for a couple of faces who came in for a film or two. Now that was pretty sad.

FYI this is also the occasion back in 1996 when ANH screened at 5am on a Sunday morning and the whole place was jammed packed full of people as this was the very LAST cinema screening of Classic ANH pre special edition. It was just like the old days with the cheering and clapping.

    Anyway, be seeing ya there.

Well, a devoted Sci-Fi friend of mine and I will definately be coming. Don't know how long we'll stay ( a whole 24 hours IS a little long) but you're sure to see me there ;)

Wait a sec... is that THIS weekend?

If it is, I might be able to come, but only for a couple of movies. I'll have to fit them around work. :(

Just to let you know the event was a hoot and a holler (as always).

For the record, I missed the first two films and arrived just in time to see the Lucasfilm Ltd logo for AOTC. From there on I was able to watching all the remaining films until 8am the next day (I actually felt pretty awake too).

As always I didn't see anyone else from fandom there but I've kinda gotten used to that.

If you're interested the Westgarth Cinema is holding a Star Trek marathon on March 9 featuring all 10 Star Trek films.

In June they're holding a 24 hours of horror movies marathon.

    So there ya go.
