    Arena Hold'em Poker

One of the most popular games in the world, Poker requires bravery, bravado and bluff. Whether you're an amateur or a pro, nearly everyone enjoys a hand or two. Now it's time to don a cap, take a seat, order a martini and play poker in The Arena

Because of the nature of this board, the game will be played slightly differently to real life versions.

    # Every player will receive 10 credits as their starting allowance. Players will not be given extra credits during the game.

    # Every player is then 'dealt' two cards - these are sent by the 'dealer' to the players via PM.

    # The first round of betting then takes place. During a round of betting (lasting no more than 24 hours), players declare whether they are 'in' the hand, of if they fold. Players who fold during a round of betting are no longer in the hand, and do not retrieve any credits played in previous betting rounds. Players who declare that they are 'in' have the appropriate amount of credits deducted from their tally (will start at 1) and added to the pot. There is no turn order - post in or fold at any stage during the 24 hours, although you cannot change your position after you have posted.

    # The flop (three cards) is then played by the dealer on the 'table' - posted in the thread. Another round of betting takes place.

    # This is then followed by the Turn (1 card), another round of betting, the River (Final Card) and a final round of betting. Those who are still in the game at this stage will 'reveal' their cards (or the dealer will, depending on time constraints), and the person with the best possible hand of 5 cards from their 2 cards and the 5 'community' cards will be declared the winner of the hand and gain all the credits played during that round.

    # If, at any stage during a round, a player runs out of credits (eg. they use their last credit during the flop round), the round is declared all in. No more bets will be taken after that round and the last cards (in this case, the turn and the river) will be revealed, followed by the players still in the games cards.

    # In the unlikely event that all players fold before a hand is over, the pot will be carried over to the next hand

    # As the game progresses, the amount of credits required to stay in a round will be increased at the discretion of the dealer.

    # Rounds will follow in this manner until one person is left with all the credits and is declared the winner. The winner will receive a weeks colours.

i'm in, but i gotta ask... why doesn't the last person standing (if everyone starts folding) get the chips like pretty much anywhere else i've seen? or i suppose more accurately, if the last person would have folded, then they get them because they were the last one that was in the hand?

Because it is more fun this way and has the option of giving a higher pot since you're only able to bet 1 at each stage to start off with. Also, I don't think that ever happened in the last game.

*shrugs* not a huge deal, was just curious. and i suppose that makes sense.

just don't see why the last person would actually fold, though.

If I can check this.... so for each round of betting, its limited only to being in or out, absent of a value to bet, per se, and there's no reraising?

Well if you're in you bet 1 for each round. At this point there is no raising, but we will get to that after we whittle away a few people.

Anyone know of another who wants to play? If not we'll start the table with just 9 on Monday.

ok, was thinking about this, and why isn't it just a more regular betting system? like having 500 chips or something?

not complaining, just a bit curious as to why it was decided to do it this way is all.

Because it's easier this way - and if we played it like normal poker, with raises and reraises, the game would take months to complete.

I'll be out before you and will stake my color and icon for a week on it!

Would take? As it is, the last one took three months, so it would take years. :p

    Lol, indeed.

I think you have the right idea about the last couple of players playing no-limit. Call it 'The Final Table', or something.

Yeah I had an argument with myself last night about starting this because I don't have all the cards uploaded into my photobucket. But I think I'll go ahead and start this tonight and just use words until I get all the pictures up. So that way its at least rolling.
