I was wondering if you can create an object, which will be invisable but will receive a shadow. So lets say there is a character walking on this box, you can't see the box he is on, just the shadow he cast on it. Is there a plug in or method to do this?

Take the model you want to cast shadows, right click on it and hit properties. Uncheck everything but "renderable" and "cast shadows" in the rendering control list. Hit "Ok". Also, make sure the lights in question are set to "cast shadows" otherwise you get nothing.

    Have a nice day.

Of you could use the matte/shadow material that also allows for reflections.

i think the matte/shadow material is the best option, as it makes a matte of the shadow which is very useful for compositing.
