Some French students are working on it as well...

they tell you how to make your own device...

Cheating? Says who? I never knew modeling in 3D was compared to taking a test. ILM and Weta to name a couple use 3D scanners all the time because it's a time saver. There are many purists who prefer to model everything from scratch like me but a tool like this is very cool indeed (especially at the price!). :)

Aight, I read some french and I got the general idea of it all, and it actually looks quite easy. For all of you non-electronics nerds, it's just a camera viewing a laser line (at an upward angle) being displaced over the surface, while the physical model rotates and a camera records it. Then an application scans the certain color/luminance of the displaced line, and turns them into isoparms, later to be inserted into a 3D app. Less than $80!!

    See, really quite simple. ;)

The symbol is a Euro, the single currency on the European continent.

Thankfully us Brit's are keeping our £, for the time being - damn you Tony blair

Actually most PC's can type using French Characters ... you just need to know the codes ;) ...... not very practical for typing at speed, but shows it is possible to use these characters .....

If anyone wants the Euro Font, just bag it over at Adobe .....

    URL http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/type/win/all/eurofont.exe

    French Character Codes:

    ¿ ... Alt 0 1 9 2
    « ... Alt 0 1 9 9
    » ... Alt 0 2 0 0
    ? ... Alt 0 2 0 1
    À ... Alt 0 2 0 3
    OE ... Alt 0 2 0 6
    oe ... Alt 0 2 0 7
    ` ... Alt 0 2 1 2
    ÷ ... Alt 0 2 1 4
    # ... Alt 0 2 2 4
    Á ... Alt 0 2 3 1
    È ... Alt 0 2 3 3
    Ë ... Alt 0 2 3 2
    Í ... Alt 0 2 3 4
    Ó ... Alt 0 2 3 8
    Ô ... Alt 0 2 3 9

It's not cheating if the 3D artist actually takes the time to sculpt a bust (like Dex, AOTC) and scan it in. Aditionally, if you animate the object you still have to build in the tools for animation modifiers and stuff. (e.g. morph, biped, etc)All this tool does is speed up a complicated process. It doesn't solve all our problems.

(Still waiting for the keyboard button "Make Fanfilm")

Aditionally, the Euro currently has the exchange rate of 1.2269 to the American Dollar.

So 150? in US Dollars is aprox. $122.26.

(This information was Googled and found at www.x-rates.com)

Update, in the process of building the laser module and anglin' it just right, programming shouldn't be too hard for this project.
