I was wondering why on Google there were images of Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Bert & Ernie and other SS characters, and it turns out today marks the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street!

Reading up on the history of the show, I was surprised at several facts, like how it was expected to not last long, it was originally conceived as a learning show for inner city kids, how its diverse cast was considered "controversial" at the time, etc.

For me, the show has given me fond memories of my childhood before Star Wars - it was (and is) a fun way to learn, and was my first introduction to the Muppets!

    Here's to 40 more years!

I remember watching Sesame Street back in the early 80's and I told my dad "hey, Grover sounds like Yoda"

I was at Target and saw a DVD celebrating SS's 40 years. It was only $19.99 and had the best segments from EVERY year of the show, with cool extras, and I think the very first episode!
