Comics Lando #2 (of 5)

#1 was a strong start. Looking forward to this.

 

Captain Shan.

Heh. Old Republic: Annihilation suggested Shan was a common name in the galaxy. Well there you go.

And my goodness. That Lando dialogue cannot be read without hearing Billy Dee.

 

I think Captain Shan got blown up when the Star Destroyers fired on the shipyard.

 

Yep, Charles Soule has definitely nailed Lando's dialogue so far.

 

Man, that preview makes me wish I wasn't trade-waiting! The art is lovely and I'm with everyone above: Soule has given us Lando, not merely an impression of him.

Also I love the cover. Lando's so nonchalant, chillin' in the Emperor's chair, tossin' some chance cubes. It's so very Lando.

 

And Lobot's all "I'm not even supposed to be here today,"

 

I want to see a running gag where Shans are the Redshirts of the New Canon. Even better if one is named Wilhelm Shan. Jordan D. White, could we make this happen?

 

I can imagine Palpatine coming into his throne room and seeing Lando in his chair....

Palpatine: What are you doing on my throne?
Lando: It was the only seat available

 

"You really should get some more furniture in here, Sheev. I know a guy..."

 

Looks sharp, will definitely look into issue 2...well after knowing that it went to second printing, I will get the issue.

 

I'm curious whether there's something specific on the ship that Palpatine wants back, or whether he just doesn't want people stealing his ship. Could go either way.

Karl0143: Sorry, I still seem to be unable to quote posts or tag people. The impression I got from the preview was that Captains Shan and Conro were in command of the other two Star Destroyers in the Commodore's flotilla, and it was a conference call about their orders now that they'd arrived, not a communication between the ships and the space station before they blew it up. So Shan should still be alive and well.

Also, I agree with Jello. Imperialis is an awesome and well-suited name for the Emperor's yacht.

 

Better name than "The Sheev Machine"

 

Beautiful preview. The art continues to stun and I'll echo the comments that Imperialis is a pretty cool ship name. Identified as a corvette though, seems rather small for a corvette.

Generally I don't really care for Marvel's Star Wars comics. Not that interested in the era (early OT and pre-OT) and not a big Marvel fan. But its Soule, and he is hitting it out of the park with this Lando and the dialogue, so I guess I will be buying this series.

I knew things would go wrong, but three ISDs? Heh, and love how nonchalant Lando is about everything, and even a Millennium Falcon reference, which sort of dates this (after losing the Falcon to Han).

 

My only complaint is that it took me forever to read issue #1 because I kept reading in Lando's slow suave voice.

 

I hope you read that out loud.

 

Yeah, the final pages of #1 took an unexpectedly (and very fun) turn. It seemed like they were gearing up for typical drawn-out heist, but got through it super quickly! Here's my review of that issue:

This issue definitely got me excited for the future of this series. Up until now I had no idea where the story was going now it looks like it's heading in an interesting direction
