    Published: November 30, 2016
    Rating: Rated T
    Writer: Kelly Thompson
    Penciller: Emilio Laiso
Cover: Mike Mayhew (variant by Elsa Charretier)

    Publisher's summary:
Princess Leia is on a top-secret dangerous mission that brings her to a planet that wants no part of the war against the Empire. But when an injury threatens to end her mission, can she inspire that rebel spirit in those who just want to keep their heads down? Writer Kelly Thompson (A-FORCE) and artist Emilio Laiso (GODS OF WAR) bring us an all-new tale of Alderaan’s last monarch in action!

(As GrandAdmiralJello would tell you, the summary may be a bit inaccurate, since Leia Organa was never the monarch of Alderaan.)

Interesting that they show us a reverse perspective on one of those usual Imperial bottomless pit constructions.

Maybe it IS bottomless. Maybe Leia will fall to her death. And then be resurrected by Splendid Ap.

Clearly, this is meant to evoke the "Mario dies on the cover art" theory.

In all seriousness, though, I'm guessing Leia's hair color has more to do with her being in disguise or something for her top secret mission. Otherwise she kinda looks like, I dunno, Jessica Alba perhaps?

Seriously. I assumed it was a different character modelled on Diane Lane.

A junk town located on a desert planet near a crashed star destroyer?

Marvel is hitting it out of the park with these creative, innovative ideas that really push the envelope!

    That doesn't look like a desert. It's a beach.

Man, let's just be grateful we've not reached the stage of Marvel SW where we find out she was an Imperial Agent all along.

Not to nitpick but we've got a huge mass of muscle looking after Leia....wouldn't have made more sense (and look slightly less silly) to have leia be looked after by a man?

And again Marvel introduces an interesting new character to canon. I already like Bash and wonder how this will all end for her. Maybe she joins the rebellion or maybe the story will take a more unexpected route. It will sure be interesting to see the interplay between a princess/war leader and a no-nonsense engineer.

Isn't it a Marvel tradition to build up a future story arc in the main comic line with such annuals? The Star Wars Annual #1 was the basis for Rebel Jail and the Darth Vader Annual #1 for The Shu-Torun War. Eneb Ray and Queen Trios appeared in those arcs, so maybe Bash will later pop up again with a pivotal role in a story arc of the main Star Wars line.

I've spent too long watching Lit ignore this kind of talk. Ignoring doesn't do anything. They don't just get bored and go away, if that's what your reasoning is.

I've done both - have sometimes responded (see post #3 above), other times, like this one, it was so blatant I opted for the 'don't feed the troll' non-response.

Heh, yeah, though it's kind of surprising no one did a wrecked Star Destroyer before TFA. I'm having difficulty recalling one before that and it is a cool image so I don't mind them using it again.

Yeah and, I mean, it's not like Jakku was the only battle fought where Star Destroyers would've crashed. It being a desert again may be a bit much, but the crashed Destroyer itself isn't an issue. Like you say, I'm surprised it's not popped up more often.
