So speaking of Boyle being a potential candidate for director for Bond 25, I don't think I'd realized until this recent news that he directed the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony intro scene with Craig and the Queen.

He directed the entire opening ceremony, of which Happy and Glorious was one part.

    Terrific news.

Hopefully Boyle isn't even compelled to address the events of Spectre. Disregard it, and give us something lean and mean. Daniel Craig--the finest Bond since early Connery--deserves to go out on a high note.

Not quite official until MGM or EON confirm, but yeah... with Boyle saying all that it sounds like a done deal. Good to see some progress on the Bond 25 front.

    Totally agreed.

Danny Boyle is a stylish and proven director who knows how to direct actors and helm successful productions. This is a great choice but not one I necessarily expected. Daniel Craig deserves a good send off, I hope this is it.

I have hopes, but Spectre was directed by a good director, and that was dire - silly, stupid, and dull, imo, which is a killer combination which should never happen to a Bond film; I can cope with silly & stupid if it is fun & imaginative, and I can forgive dull if the script is smart and subtle, but the only thing I liked about Spectre was the carnival visuals.

soitscometothis: Boyle and Hodge are working on a script. They'll likely give us something invigorating, as they have something to prove. (Spectre was merely Mendes's half-arsed victory lap after Skyfall.)

It's funny: This is the first instance as a Bond fan where I find myself hoping that the producers abandon continuity, rather than create or heed it. I can only fantasize about the gunbarrel sequence: Bond walks across the screen, takes aim, shoots, blood falls, iris expands...

NOTE: BLOFELD AND SWAN DIED ON THE WAY BACK TO THEIR HOME PLANET

There's a lot wrong with Spectre, and most of it is a combination of the usual bull****, where fantasy creeps in and we go back to the halcyon idiocy of the Moore era (see also: Die Another Day); Purvis and Wade in general (they added the brother angle to the John Logan script); and some belief that the humour would work in Daniel Craig's era when it generally has not to date.

The idea of Quantum dissolving into something new, called Spectre, would have been interesting to explore but instead it became a stupid plot with idiot reveals that mean nothing in the context of the story. The name Blofeld means nothing to anyone but the audience, so why did that have to happen?

    It didn't.

Why did Blofeld have to be behind the plots of the last 3 Craig films? No reason. And why was the motive basically childish revenge? No reason.

The fact everyone is phoning it in is made worse by the Sam Stewart song winning an award it never deserved.

It's a pity the report function has a time limit between reports.

Certainly Radiohead's rejected Spectre theme sounds better and better as time goes on, and I didn't even like it the first time I heard it. Now I feel, slow as it is, it is kind of classy, especially next to Sam Smith's effort. On the other hand, I think the film ended up with the theme song it deserved.:p

Spectre as a film is best ignored.

The franchise has a lot of those; the Moore years, Connery's last two, Die Another Day...

Moonraker is the only Fleming Bond novel I've read, and remember enjoying it. I've listened to a few of the other Radio 4 adaptations so I might well give it a go.

I've never read a Fleming novel, so which one would be the best one to start off with? Or should I go by publishing date?

I'd start with Casino Royale , it was the first , after that I don't think it matters too much . I've not read all of them , I know there is some continuity between some of the novels but I don't think it's that important .
