How come it's 0011 and 0012, and not 011 or 012...you know, keeping with three digits like 007?

 

You're asking why, in the Double-Oh section, it's not 012?

But in all serious face, I think it's in Thunderball that it's explain the Double-Oh section never has more than 12 agents tasked to it. Only 3 are mentioned directly by Fleming.

By the way, how many years pass between Quantum of Solace and Skyfall? I mean, Daniel Craig's Bond went from being a newly inducted 00 agent in the first film to Skyfall where they're all like "oh no you're too old, you can't shoot straight, we need to fudge your records in order to get you back into the field".

 

The Double-Oh section is supposed to be an elite section of SIS, meaning Bond might be newly minted as a 00, but he would have had time as a regular agent in the Service after his tenure in the SBS was finished.

Assume a real-time passage from Casino Royale to Skyfall; Bond would have been an 00 for 6 years. (QoS being a direct sequel to CR, and therefore set in 2006 not 2008).

According to the books 00s retire at 45, a mandatory limit.

 

VERY excited about the new movie. Also very happy that they have come full circle to the old "continuity" with M, Moneypenny, etc and nearly squee-ed in excitement when they named the new movie. I remember first watching QOS and thinking that the Quantum organization was SPECTRE. When they named it specifically as the "Quantam" org. I was a bit disappointed but do hold out hope that are at least connected somehow.

 

I never took it as "you're too old...". I thought it had more to with the physical and mental damage he incurred in his last mission and from being out of the "game" for so long.

 

What's interesting about that is how similar Skyfall was to The World is Not Enough: both have Bond getting injured in the opening scenes, and both involve the villains' having a vendetta against M, including an attack on MI6 headquarters and therefore MI6 having to move to a backup place.

So I started playing Bloodstone and good god it's like passing a bloody kidney stone the size of a basketball. The graphics are pure ****, the driving is an abortion, and the cover mechanics make absolutely no goddamned sense.

And I'm only 15 minutes in.

The second unit continued work on the plane sequence in Obertilliach this week. The second unit continue their work in Austria after the principal cast headed back to Pinewood Studios a week earlier. Shots of the plane crashing through the snow banks were captured on Thursday 29th January 2015 in the town of Obertilliach. Earlier in the month, Daniel Craig was seen 'piloting' the wingless plane fuselage downhill through the snowy village. Bond games are awful. GoldenEye is given too much hype and everything since decides Bond should be shooting stuff.

 

Not true! How quickly you forget that pinnacle of Bond gaming, Everything or Nothing.

 

Did it involve lots of shooting?

 

Probably the least of all the modern games. There were whole levels that were basically puzzles, besides racing/driving levels and espionage style gameplay. It was the least violent overall, and one of the few that was not a first person shooter.

 

See after Agent Under Fire and Nightfire, I never tried Everything or Nothing...fire. And then you get Quantum of Solace, 007 Legends, and Bloodstone which emphasise shooty bits. Bond games should be more like the Hitman games.

 

Indeed, and I thought the recovery period was a direct reference to Never Say Never Again.

Skyfall is overflowing with nods to the old movies. It has so many continuity references it may as well have been written by James Luceno.

 

The inclusion of the old DB5 was especially a stretch (I like that car, but come on).

Casting for extras starts tomorrow in Mexico City. Sounds like there will probably be large scale outdoor scenes filmed there.

 

I'm hearing now that we've finally decided to go along with American interests and extend our copyrights to cover an additional twenty years, so I imagine it won't be the case for much longer.
