I posted that a couple of months ago. That's what happened with Capaldi re: Doctor Who as well.

Not only does that make no sense, you're clearly Americans having an opinion on the future of Bond which you shouldn't. You have your own blue collar heroes, lacking any debonair flair or style, so go breathlessly await the next Bourne film.

But but but I don't like Bourne. Much.

Wait, why can an Aussie have an opinion on Bond but an American cannot? Color me confused by your (affected?) bigotry, as usual.

    *Colour

    a) top left of the flag
    b) head of state
    c) best film had an Australian Bond

Whereas Bond can never be American, because Bond isn't ****.

*Dialectic differences are valid sub-groupings of a given language.

    a) Congratulations
    b) Condolences
    c) Very true

Neither is Potter, Doctor Who, Monty Python, Tolkien's Legendarium, or the Arthurian Cycle aka the Matter of Britain, all of which are part of my DNA at this point. What's your point exactly, other than trying to shut down discussion in a discussion forum?

No they're not. You don't actually speak English, you speak some dumbed down variant of it. "How are you?" "I'm good." "Well, that's excellent, glad you're not in league with Lucifer, now answer the question please?"

You're the people pushing things like Idris as Bond, because it conforms to your particular cultural census. You're the ones who made DAD make so much money. Mustn't speak any more.

I don't want Idris as Bond. I was earlier defending the idea of a black-skinned Bond, not Idris specifically. Hair color is unimportant with respect to Craig and Moore, at least. Why skin color is somehow different or more important remains an open question.

Your unwavering bigotry against dialectical variation is uninformed. You may wish to begin to educate yourself here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dialect

    Also:

Many of the differences between American and British English date back to a time when spelling was not widely standardized. For instance, some spellings seen as "American" today were once commonly used in Britain; and vice versa. A "British standard" began to emerge following the 1755 publication of influential dictionaries such as Samuel Johnson's A Dictionary of the English Language, and an "American standard" began following the work of Noah Webster, and in particular his An American Dictionary of the English Language. - David Micklethwait (1 January 2005). Noah Webster and the American Dictionary. McFarland. p. 137. ISBN 978-0-7864-2157-2. --https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_and_British_English_spelling_differences

Regional dialects are the result of numerous factors, including patterns of settlement, subsequent migration, and isolation.
    • There are greater differences in dialects from North to South than from East to West.
    • No region of the U.S. is without a dialect. Every speaker of English uses a dialect.
    • Perceptions about the language of a region and perceptions of the people who live there reinforce each other.
    • Regional dialects are not homogeneous. There are many sub-dialects in each regional dialect area. --http://www.pbs.org/speak/education/curriculum/college/regional/

While all of this might seem self-evident to the dialectologist, if we are to work toward a more tolerant society, we need to make the public more conscious that all dialects have prestige and value for the speakers who use them. --http://muse.jhu.edu/login?auth=0&type=summary&url=/journals/american_speech/v075/75.4linn.html

No, dialect is a retrospective justification for the dribbling mess you speak. :p

QOS as worst? It's so good. What's wrong with you people?

And TLD... It was my first Bond and I was so happy to see the Aston Martin V8 at the Bond in Motion exhibit. But LTK is such a better character piece...

It's bad, but so many other movies are so much worse. It at least has a few things going for it (Christopher Lee, some chunks that work, Roger Moore's third- or fourth-best performance), which is more than you can say for some of the more complete disasters. It's the sort of bad movie that almost works except for all the ways it keeps insisting on failing, which I'll take over something like the tedious, stupid, uniformly dirt-colored, through-and-through unwatchable Octopussy any day.

It's cloying attempts to be a Bourne film tire fast, and although the joys of a Bond film aren't necessarily in the set pieces, when they are as woefully bereft of entertainment value as they are in this film it becomes a chore, which is a crime for any Bond film. I'll stress that the Tosca shootout is a marvelous exception. You also have a mix of editorial and directorial styles that go together about as well as soup and cake. Ultimately I think it'd make for a great special feature on the Casino Royale DVD but as an "installment" the fact that they went to shoot without a script is apparent a little too often.

It absolutely does and LTK is in my top 10, and I love the core reversal of Bond genuinely getting involved beyond his means and Pam being his saviour time and time again, as well as the interactions with Sanchez and the overall toughness of the piece; that being said I don't think overall cheapness of the film holds up - visually it is a disappointment and Glen probably should have been moved on by then because it doesn't serve what Maibaum and Wilson were doing in the script very well.

TLD on the other hand just sings for me, and it always has, Moore holdover elements notwithstanding.

As reflected in my votes, I really like QOS... I think it works very well as a continuation of / sequel to Casino Royale, which it is.

Berkoff alone puts it streets ahead of TMWTGG for me, but your mileage may vary, I guess. I think there's a good Bond film rattling around in that whole German sequence, whereas I really can't find one in TMWTGG.

Good to see Dr. No up there. Just plain good fun, and I wish someone would be bold enough to make a modern Bond film that is a straightforward pulpy adventure tale like that.
