That and Christmas - any type of market/store/mall is probably most crowded at this time of year. Main news on the BBC has been Berlin but Zurich has been mentioned as well.

Yeah, Christian holiday, christmas markets making a good target: lots of people crammed into marketplaces exercising very little situational awareness.

I'm not sure IS would be all that interested in European elections.

The arrest in the Salzburg area (Fuschl, where Reb Bull's hq is, actually) is pretty scary. Police won't say what the plot was, just that it threatened severe harm.

Trip to Innsbruck is still on, we're not thrilled, but ...

ISIS pretty much said they were rooting for Trump because more Islamophobia on the part of the West would increase the salience of their "war on Islam" narrative and generate more recruits for them. So yeah, I have no doubt they'd want a stronger showing from Marie Le Pen and AfD.

    Damn :-(

On the plus side, security should be pretty tight and people more aware of their surroundings.

The man was released. They thought he was the one as a member of the public followed him from the market. Meanwhile, no search for the actual perp. [face_plain]

"It had been widely reported that a member of the public had seen him get out of the driver’s cab and had chased him through Berlin’s streets into the central park, the Tiergarten, keeping in contact with police all the time and enabling his arrest at the Victory Column. "

I was wandering through the Tiergarten (the Wagner statue was under repair) about a year ago.

"He has admitted to police he was at the Christmas market as a bystander, but then ran away out of fear he might be considered a suspect. "

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

It's almost like IS wants a "clash of civilisations". :p IS, pls, don't give Huntington a bigger head than he has now.

    Sky News

And in a bit of a twist the new suspect the police are hunting was born in Tataouine, Tunisia.
