After some thought, I have taken,

Eric's suggestion (about these boards made at the June 27, 2009 Meeting),

If we don't use it, we're gonna loose it

to heart


And so, have started this thread on our RSA's home board,
for us to offer suggestions, thoughts, comments, ideas, etc.

that might be of interest to our RSA, but that we might forget
before there is an opportunity to disccus them.

And so, my first thought is........any thoughts on if a thread like this
can be of any use?

Greetings from South Bend, IN - via South Dakota (or maybe it's the other way around).

MusicTrooper and perhaps echo-3 will recognize me as a very regular contributor to the South Bend board. I am taking a quick tour of other Midwest boards tonight and thought I would check in here. MusicTrooper alerted us (South Bend) to your June 27 podcast, which I listened to with much interest, particularly the topic of TF.N board use. To echo-3, I would suggest you post a link to your next podcast on the other Midwest boards - perhaps others will see how active the Bloomington group is and be inspired to organize their own meeting, or otherwise be more active. If you do something like that, I would also suggest you include a sentence or two to describe the topic(s) of the podcast.

I see there is a Darthpewe79 who posted on the main Midwest board with a question about how to get something up and running in central Illinois. Again to echo-3 - I agree with Ed's comments to that fan, encouraging him to visit some of the other boards to help give him support while he is building up something closer to home. There is a case-in-point that the board is not dead yet.

PS - Watch out Denver, here comes South Bend!

ps, good idea making the podcast more available,
perhaps a survey asking if their is interest,
or even include an quick tutorial on how to....

Anything you can tell us about the recent spam posted all around the midwest boards?

It was the petition thread that is now locked by another RSA.

I responded to a few of the midwest boards warning some about what this looked like to me,
hope you do not mind.

 

Dont know anything about him, I PM the RSA that closed all of the threads he started in Eveery single FF in the Midwest. He was ban for spamming.

It is this kind of vigilance (checking all the boards)
against spammers and trouble makers that I really appreaciate.

Unfortunately Ed, I dint do my job this time as another RSA come to the rescue.

 

I believe that your probation period as RSA is over, and so my next suggestion to you is to


put your___echo-3___

in the_________Contact your RSA_________

location at the top of each local banner
in the ___Midwest, or your area of responsibility.

and then to also do another, new midwest RSA post on all midwest boards
announcing the end of your probation period.

Your first round of threads posting your arrival were well received,
and I think a little re-affirmation that these boards are still
very much alive and in use will be a good thing

After that gets up and running I have even more suggestions as to what you might
consider. Depending on how much time you can spend on line

Next item up for consideration are the Chapter Reps

(Please forgive me if I am sounding a little preachy)

But I think they all need updating

For example,

Here in Bloomington, if you click atataboy?s name in the top banner
In an attempt to contact them you would get the following as a response.


The requested user could not be found. Would you like to search for a user?


Another Example,

Can be found on the St. Louis Fan Force boards,

The CR name there is un-clickable_____ALSO____this user has been
Inactive a long time and may no longer be the CR of St. Louis,

And so, all the CR-s need to be verified and updated
And made clickable, (like yours) so that they can be contacted by local fans.

Making the rounds of all the forums under your care and updating
Chapter Reps should be a good way to assess how the forums are doing in general.

This may take longer then I expected as most if not all of these fix's are HTML and I know NOTHING about HTML at this time. I PM one of the other RSA for help learning.

 

Lots to learn about being an RSA. I think as you get into this,
we will see that the Midwest has been too long with out an RSA
to help maintain these boards and to help them to grow.

Very happy to have you lead us and help keep these boards active.

 

Eric, I'm sure there are plenty people in our group who know enough about HTML to help you out. Myself included.

Well I spent the better part of 2 hrs yesterday fixing Broken links, adding CR's to boards and looking around for inactive CR's. And trying to get Green Bay , Wisconson added to the forums.

 

Hopefully, all this hard work will pay off

Havin an RSA who is around, and links that work, and listed CRs who are at least
active on these boards, should bring out more fans to post a little
as I think all this shows we care.

Am unsure how CRs are selected, but think that for a fan-force, that is just starting out,
or is trying to get going again, that even a temporary appointment of some kind
until a more formal process (more local members) might be worth a try,
something like temporary for 30 days. Just a thought.

 

Chapter Reps are voted in by the FF. I told the guy in the MW board to get two others to post there interest(as per the rules for starting a new FF ) for a Green Bay FF, So well see if it happens.
