read at own risk, will do a cut and past of this fox news article just in case
    this link goes dead....................lol

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maryland company under contract to the Pentagon is working on a steam-powered robot that would fuel itself by gobbling up whatever organic material it can find ? grass, wood, old furniture, even dead bodies.

Robotic Technology Inc.'s Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot ? that's right, "EATR" ? "can find, ingest, and extract energy from biomass in the environment (and other organically-based energy sources), as well as use conventional and alternative fuels (such as gasoline, heavy fuel, kerosene, diesel, propane, coal, cooking oil, and solar) when suitable," reads the company's Web site.

That "biomass" and "other organically-based energy sources" wouldn't necessarily be limited to plant material ? animal and human corpses contain plenty of energy, and they'd be plentiful in a war zone.

EATR will be powered by the Waste Heat Engine developed by Cyclone Power Technology of Pompano Beach, Fla., which uses an "external combustion chamber" burning up fuel to heat up water in a closed loop, generating electricity.

The advantages to the military are that the robot would be extremely flexible in fuel sources and could roam on its own for months, even years, without having to be refueled or serviced.

Upon the EATR platform, the Pentagon could build all sorts of things ? a transport, an ambulance, a communications center, even a mobile gunship.

In press materials, Robotic Technology presents EATR as an essentially benign artificial creature that fills its belly through "foraging," despite the obvious military purpose

    OK then,

    Yes, I was......just a little........at first,

then I began to wonder if this ipod vs walkman article was actually written by someone
who was so over whelmed by the "old" technology, that it took them 3 days to figure it out.

Then, after some analysis, the article seemed more like an advertisement.

Then, I thought, am I not the champion of the old technology, and I thought,
    heck, I need to respond.

But then, I thought, hey, this article said they were only showing
selected responses, thus more "painting" of the message that they were sending.

and so, inspired by all to post here,
    here is my defense.

Shame on this article for not encouraging the young to look to history for future guidance.

The article had very few kind words for the father, who was on the cutting edge of technology
and has made it possible for his children to do the same.

Lastly, in defense of the Walkman,

It does NOT, encourage you to spend money you do not have,
click here, spend this, get this app so your device works better.

It does NOT, bombard you with what others want you to listen to and see.
    especially endless advertising.

It does NOT, encourage you (due to it's size, hard to hide in school)
listen to music while in class instead of paying attention and studying something so you can learn it.

and do not get me started on cell phones and texting[face_laugh]

end of cranky, old person rant[face_peace]
