My problem is that my bump map is inverting half way across the polygon, makng a rather undesirable effect which you can see in this picture. Does anyone know what causes this? Or how to fix it? Thank you.

(I hope the image link works).

EDIT : It didn't work, so here's the address instead:

    1) cgtalk attachments can only be viewed by cgtalk members.

    2) from the image (which is quite small) it looks like your texture is messed up, not your bump.

    3) what software are you using?

Really? I'll try and get it on my geocities site soon. Thanks for the heads up.

from the image (which is quite small) it looks like your texture is messed up, not your bump.

With a better (larger) image you can better see what's going on, you can see the light reacting in different ways, I am pretty sure it's the bump.

    what software are you using?

    Softimage XSI V. 2.0.1

Here is the image again (geocities):

haven't used Softimage much... first off: have you cut any of these polygons? (i.e. split them diagnolly)

I have tried splitting them. that sometimes solves things like this, but not in this case.

Best bet is to do an UnwrapUVW (or your 3D package's equivalent) and take a look at the mapping directly. If that looks fine, hmmm... d'know.
