Title: A Certain Point of View
    Author: SakuraTsukikage
Characters: Shian, Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padme, though Yoda, Palpatine, and the droids make appearances too
    Timeframe: During and after RotS
Disclaimer: The Flanneled One owns all, not me.

Author's Notes: So, this is just a little thing I've been working on as a companion piece to A Resolution Between Shadows and Light--the events from the point of view of one of the major OCs. I'd just write random scenes from her point of view to help me with the writing of ARBSL, but they were good enough I decided there deserved to be a story . . .

    One

Healer Shian Risto hadn?t been having a very good day.

She hadn?t been having a very good week, actually, but she hadn?t actually had what she would have classified as a good week in quite some time, so it was just this particular day that registered as being worse than average.

First of all, she hadn?t slept well the night before. Strange dreams of lava and fire and darkness, of two men fighting suspended over a river of flame, had disrupted her sleep, and so she had overslept?which never happened?only to be awakened by Supervisor Grenned?s impatient voice over the com, demanding that she get herself down to trauma now because they had a seriously injured new patient and an expectant mother coming in, and where the Sith had she been, anyway?

Shian had bitten back the acerbic comeback she had wanted to hurl at him and obediently hurried down to incoming.

She was one of the healers waiting when the royal Naboo yacht docked in the rudimentary Elanna starport, and she was still yawning and blinking sleep out of her eyes and trying to make sure that her healer?s jumpsuit was fastened correctly without being obvious about it when the ramp descended and the Jedi walked down it.

The old bitterness welled up within her at the sight of him, slicking the back of her throat with a sour taste and twisting her heart painfully with a burning, angry pain. It was the same whenever she saw that familiar silhouette, and Shian had learned to live with the anger and the resentment. She pushed it into the back of her mind, tamping down the roiling feelings that surged to life at the sight of that tunic, that weapon, even those boots, and tried to get herself to focus. Obviously this wasn?t one of the patients they were waiting for; he must have brought the others, whoever they were, here.

It surprised her when he swayed, halfway down the ramp, and steadied himself with one hand on the landing strut. There was exhaustion written in every line of his body, and he wasn?t exactly youthful; though Shian was far away she could see that much. He had a beard, anyway, and he didn?t move like a young man. She moved forward automatically at his almost-fall, but Jorik Thann, the other medic who had accompanied her, stepped up to the ramp before she could.

?General Kenobi?? he said, and the man nodded wearily as he finished making his way down it and stopped in front of the other Healer. He wasn?t a big man?in fact, the top of his head barely came up to Jorik?s shoulder, but there was something about him that warned you not to underestimate him, a sort of presence that made him seem much bigger.

General Kenobi? Shian thought. The Negotiator? The Jedi Master and Republic hero? Here, on Elanna? It was almost too incredible to be believed.

?Yes,? he said quietly. His voice was soft, with a classic Coruscanti accent that made his words rounded and precise. ?You are . . . ??

?Healer Jorik,? the big man responded with a slight bow of respect. ?And this is Trauma Specialist Shian Risto.?

Shian gave a short, jerky bow, then was immediately ashamed of herself for letting the old anger affect her enough that she resented showing everyday respect for someone.

Kenobi nodded in her direction, and Shian noticed that his eyes were a light changeable blue-green color that drew one?s attention, clear and piercing. ?Thank you for meeting me on such short notice,? he said.

    *applauds* Bravo!

    Nice begining to this fic.

So, will this be mostly missing scences or will there be some scenes from Resolution in here from Shian's POV?

    Eagerly awaiting the next post.

    JRose

PS: Please put me on a PM list for this story, if you make one.

    Edit: First reply, yahoo!

Wow, it is so interesting to read what she thinks of Obi-Wan and Anakin! I really enjoyed it!

And I particularly loved this line:

?I don?t know,? Jorik replied, ?but I don?t think I?d like to see the other guy.?

That is so funny, and yet, so very ironic at the same time, considering Obi-Wan is the other guy.

I really enjoyed this, and I look forward to the next part.

Could you PM me when you update? [face_praying]

    Thank you! [:D]

A fic from Shian's POV. I love it. She's a great OC. Now we get to see how her experiences with healing Anakin and Obi-Wan all tie together with the other fic. They're nice compliment to each other already.

Please add me to you PM list too if you have one - for both fics please.

This is well written.=D= I found the premise and the characterisation absorbing. I look forward to more.

No offense, but you?re not exactly a bodybuilder yourself,
Judge him by his apparent size, does she:p Anakin didn't seem that much taller than Obi-Wan to me in the films, not even ROTS. Mace and Qui-Gon did, though. Maybe it's the Vader persona that lends the impression of a large height difference[face_thinking] Certainly, Obi-Wan has a leaner build.

(I have work colleagues who would suggest that 38 is not old:p And, to be fair, they don't look old. But I'm sure Obi-Wan would have felt and looked that way after what happened:_|...beard or no beard.)

As I said, I really enjoyed this. If you have a PM list, I'd like to be added to it, please?

EDIT: and where the Sith had she been, anyway? I've always wanted someone to say that in the films:D

Ooo... stuff from Shian's point of view! Coolness, Sakura! :D =D= =D=

It was the first time Shian had seen him straight on. He looked awful, dark bruises under his eyes, his face worn and drawn and pale with weariness.

And yet?Shian bit the inside of her lip. The thought that had just occurred to her was not at all appropriate.

But well, Skywalker wasn?t the only one of the two who was pretty, even with the beard, and she couldn?t help thinking that her day had just gotten a little better, even with the huge amount of work their presence here meant for her over the next few days.

[face_batting] [face_batting] Lady Healer, many of us know exactly what you mean. :D ;) [face_love] Of course, I personally rather liked the beard in RotS, but that's just me. [face_batting]

This is a great beginning, Sakura! Can't wait to see what happens next! :)

Oh, What a lovely beginning. You have a beautiful style of writing -skuttles off to read Resolution despite the fact she should be working on her own fic-

    Edit:
Just finished reading Resolution (Brilliant story). Now I'm definitely looking foward to see more of Shian's thoughts. =)

    Oh, great story so far.

I do hope it doesn't prevent regular updates of the main fic.

Nice touch that she told Obi-Wan he shouldn't have tried to strip clothing away from the burned areas. (I'm guessing you've had a first-aid course or two).

I agree that 38 definitely isn't old. I suspect that she thought he was old at first sight from the way he was walking and the stress the previous week had put upon his face. He's had two major battles in recent days. First on Utapau, and then on Mustafar. In between, he got to see the remains of the Temple and learn Palpatine had declared the galaxy was an Empire.

I suspect Obi-Wan would look younger once he's had a chance to get some rest, proper food, shower, etc. I think she'd also prefer it if he shaved the beard too. (That would be a good idea, btw)

Hmmm, why do I suspect Shian might have some latent Force-sensitivity herself. She had a dream of Obi-Wan's battle with Anakin while it must have been going on. As well, she seems to have some long-standing history with the Jedi Order. She recognizes small details like the boots (I'm guessing standard Order issue), how the lightsaber hangs on the belt, etc.

Perhaps she was once an initiate who wasn't strong enough and was dismissed to become a healer, or something? I'm looking forward to learning more about her background. Can't wait to see her reaction to the news that Obi-Wan was "the other guy". LOL

    This was amazing.

You've done such a great job developing Healer Shian into a full-dimensional character that your readers can identify with and care about.

Perhaps Obi-Wan will come to do the same?

This is an outstanding companion piece to your story.

    Bravo!!

To JediRose: [face_blush] *bows* Thank you, thank you! It will be a mixture of both missing scenes and scenes from her POV, I'm thinking. Probably more missing scenes.

To Ani-maniac: I'm glad you like it! I think Shian is one of the better female characters I, personally, have made up, and I'm enjoying writing things from her POV from time to time. I liked that line, too :p--I meant it to be ironic. I actually have a lot of ironic dialogue in here, I noticed.

To Daenarrah: I'm glad you liked it. Yeah, that's what this is meant to be--a compliment to the other.

To honour: Why, thank you. [face_blush] Glad you're looking forward to more! And--heh heh, judge him she does. Foolishly, perhaps. Well, (according to Wikipedia), Obi-Wan is 5'10", Anakin (without the suit) is 6'1", Mace is 6'2", and Qui-Gon is 6'4". Yes, I looked that up ;). So he is taller by about four inches, and, as you say, Obi-Wan has a lot leaner build. But since Shian is about 5'2"--no way she was lifting him on her own, I think. Yeah, I don't think thirty-eight is old, either, but he's had a hard week. Right now, I was thinking he'd look older.

To AngelQueen: :D Glad you like it! I like the beard too. I just thought--beards cut "prettiness," you know? And she was mentally comparing Anakin's and Obi-Wan's "pretty" factor ;). But we all know who she likes better . . . .

To JediFilly: Another completely new reader! Heh heh. Glad you're enjoying it. I intend this story to be a compliment to the other, filling in, as it were. In other words, nothing in here will be necessary to understand the other, but it will definitely add to the overall "experience."

To TorontoJediMaster: It won't, it won't! :p Actually, I have a lot of this written already--just not in order. Actually, you helped me with the medical realities of that--and then I did research. Lots of research for this fic, actually, since I want to make the medical stuff realistic. And heh--exactly. Even I, an eighteen-year-old, don't think that thirty-eight is old. But when Shian first saw him, she thought he was about a decade older. Obi-Wan is definitely not looking his best at the moment . . . . And--you noticed that, did you? Yes, the boots and the lightsaber . . . . She did indeed recognize them.

To michaellover: Neither of my main OCs like Jedi much, do they? :p And she does like Obi . . . .

To KELIA: Aw, thanks, Master. I like her too. And yes . . . Obi may indeed come to agree.

Yay, more from Shian's POV! :D You've done a great job with her character, I really like her. I'm wondering what has her so bitter about the Jedi, since she seems to know so much, and yet so little at the same time. I think her feelings are starting to change though, beginning with one certain Jedi Master. ;)

Very nice companion piece. If you have a pm list for this too, please add me! :)

...He probably thought you were the one who hurt him.

Kenobi nodded, but it was another rote, unthinking motion, and when he raised his head Shian was shocked by the heartbreak in his blue-green eyes. 'Yes,' he said, exhaustion slurring his soft, accented words together. 'I am sure he did.'

This puts dramatic irony at a whole new level. I'm surprised that Obi-Wan did not break out into tears at this point.

An outstanding companion piece to an already outstanding work. Fantastic!

So, a lot of the posts on this are just going to be short little slices of scenes. I hope everyone likes that--some will be long and detailed, and some will just be snapshots, as it were. This next is a snapshot . . . .

    Two

?You?re going to assign me to what?? Shian thought there should be more outrage in her tone, but she couldn?t seem to muster any up through the haze of weary detachment that had overtaken her. She managed to straighten her shoulders, though, and glare at him across his desk.

Supervisor Grenned gave her the oily smile that had always put her teeth on edge. ?This is a small medical center on an out of the way planet, Healer Risto. You are by far the most experienced healer we have, after having served in the wars, you know. I have no choice?and besides, it won?t be that much more work. You will be amply provided with a team of medical droids.?

I hate you, Shian thought dully. She wanted to reach up and rub at her temples to assuage her growing headache, but she didn?t want to reveal that much weakness in front of Grenned. I really, really hate you. Someone like Grenned?petty and selfish, interested only in his paycheck and his own advancement?would never have been given a supervisor position back on Alderaan. But Elanna was most emphatically not Alderaan, and so she had to deal with him and his persistent dislike of her. A dislike which was entirely mutual. ?I think Skywalker and Amidala will need more care than I alone can give them, Supervisor.? Her tone wasn?t quite snappish?which was a miracle, as far as Shian was concerned.

He shrugged. ?Well, Healer Thann will split care of Senator Amidala with you. Other than that, though, I just can?t spare anyone else.? He gave another false smile. ?I?m sorry, Healer Risto.?

I?m sure you are, Shian thought acidly. And I'm sure you can't. Force, she hated this man. His petty political power games had no place in a medical facility, and she hated the way he allowed his dislike of her to influence his decisions. ?Very well,? she bit out, reaching out and grabbing the datapad she had brought in off his desk. ?I will take the assignment.?

It was times like this that she almost wished she was back on active duty for the wars.

To JediRose: [face_blush] [face_blush] [face_blush] Thanks. My parents are both university English professors, so I think I just grew up writing. And--should be frightened of your Palpatine-esque qualities? ;)

To Valairy_Scot: Aw, thanks. [face_blush] You're an excellent writer yourself, I love the stuff of yours that I've read.

To Jedi_Tigris: I'm glad you like it! And I'm glad you like her; I do too. At first she was just a walk-on, but almost immediately she took on a life of her own. And wonder away . . . you'll find out eventually. ;) I would say her feelings are changing . . . .

To Fat_Bird: Glad you're enjoying, and of course!

To Bananakin_Fruiteater: I know, and I felt sort of bad doing that to Obi-Wan. I would say he only barely kept from breaking down right there. And thanks. I'm thrilled you like it!

Ooh, her supervisor annoys me a lot already. Medical institutions are for healing, not for political or power plays. So, Shian was involved in the war? Maybe that's why she has something against the Jedi, because they say they're for peace yet are fighting in the war. Interesting...if that is the case, maybe her opinions will change when she finds out that the Jedi were manipulated into the war and couldn't get out.

Nice job. Thanks for the pm! :)
