Author's Note: Thanks to ophelia for the plot bunny and thanks to Noelie for letting me Mary Sue her to death.

"I'm not sure I understand," Qui-Gon confessed. "Exactly what is the purpose of this?"

    "Observation," Noela explained.

"What," Obi-Wan interjected, "like 'Bring your Congressman to work day'?"

She hid a grin behind her mug of tisane. "Something like that," she conceded. "As it is, ten pairs of Jedi are playing host to the Senate's Diplomatic Affairs Committee and since we have a history..."

It was a mark of how much Obi-Wan had grown in the last year that he didn't snort into his tisane at that comment, but he did develop an unusual fascination directed at his lunch. After all, the word 'history' was equivalent to 'attachment' in his vocabulary. As a result, she might as well have used profanities that would make a Corellian spicer blush. Master and Senator alike ignored this, since Obi-Wan didn't seem to be able to outgrow it.

"It will be taking place tomorrow, then?" Qui-Gon inquired.

"Yes," she confirmed. "I will arrive at whatever hour is most convenient for you and leave at some point in the evening."

"And you're just observing?" Obi-Wan said, brow furrowing as if he couldn't wrap his mind around the idea of a non-meddling third party.

"I wouldn't say that," Noela rejoined. "I'll take part in the same activities to the best of my ability, but I won't be getting myself into trouble."

That was something neither of them could quite believe, since a woman who had occasional altercations with doorframes might be more trouble than she seemed, but there was nothing to be done for it.

"All right, then," Qui-Gon conceded, "you can either see us at 0600 for meditation or 0730 for breakfast."

She finally let her grin show. "I'll see you at 0600, then."

It was not surprising to find that she was the only one of the S-DAC getting cleared through Temple security at this hour. After all, if the guard making sure that she had a valid reason for being here couldn't stay fully alert, the politicians could hardly expected to do so. She, however, had managed to finish what her sister Mere called her 'frivolities' (painstaking political work) at a decnet hour and arrived at 0555. After squinting in the early morning light to see if she remotely resembled the person on her identichip, the guard waved her through and offered around a long yawn to escort her to the Jinn/Kenobi apartment.

"No need," Noela responded with what she supposed was obnoxious perkiness at this time of pre-dawn. "I know my way."

Even though most Jedi knew that it was impolite to stare, his gaze followed her to the turbolifts as he tried to work out how an outsider would know her way around the Temple. It was something of a relief, therefore, to find the lift empty when she entered and it remained that way until she reached the 10th level.

Jedi apartments were assigned on the same premise as the Illodian ideas of reincarnation. The better you acted in your 'past life,' the greater your reward. Qui-Gon had suffered through two Padawans so far and one of them managed to become a successful Knight, so he and Obi-Wan had one of the better apartments, tucked into an expansive corner on the southeast side.

Qui-Gon at least remembered that she didn't like his precognitive tendency to open the door before she knocked. Either that or he was too tired to respond to the call of the Force. Perhaps they were even tidying up the apartment, though that was usually unnecessary. It wasn't so much a matter of them being innately neat, but they were on Coruscant infrequently enough these days to avoid making a mess.

When Qui-Gon opened the door, he looked his usual self, nauseatingly handsome for someone who might have been up less than five minutes. He was not in the customary robes, but the linen sleep pants and tunic issued to every Jedi. She could see Obi-Wan moving listlessly around the kitchen, since he was still nineteen and therefore felt that he had to be the less proactive of

Yes, they have tended to call when they don't like what she wears or who she is with. I suppose she knows the way for work.

Liam doesn't mind you keeping these sorts of hours?" Qui-Gon teased as he sat on the repulsorcouch nearest her.

It was somewhat refreshing to know that at least two people in the Galaxy didn't bother keeping track of her husband's every movement. "He's on Corellia at the moment," she explained frankly, "researching a role."

He gave her a patient look that all but demanded further explanation from her, but she wasn't in the mood to give any. Instead, she found it to be a convenient time to start acting as if this were more than a social call

    And
Without further comment, he let his right hand clasp hers and pull her to her feet. She followed him into the bedroom without comment, but the look on his face when he turned nearly frightened her.

?Is he mistreating you?? he asked flatly.

For anyone who knew Liam, the man who could be a swashbuckler just as much as a hopeless romantic, it was an almost ridiculous question, but Qui-Gon seemed to be in deadly earnest.

Okay, so all isn't totally "easy" in paradise, but since Qui-Gon hasn't been forthcoming in the past, I suppose we will let it go this time too, :)

?Three hours,? Obi-Wan said sheepishly. ?We didn?t have the heart to wake you, since you weren?t snoring.?

    Thanks Obi :)

    Cute job Ish.

Yes,? she sighed, ?but despite your protestations, you think of me as an old woman??

    ?Never,? he said vehemently.

Very cute, I have a hard time imagining Noela old. ;)

Noelie--Yeah, she just seems to be their all-purpose entertainment supply. With an all-purpose clutch and an all-purpose duck and two all-purpose Jedi... Nothing's ever easy on either side, but things are good. Obi is a well-meaning dork... Thanks!

Araxie--That's based on the guy who asked me out and then called Noelie old! The gall of the guy!
