Memph, TN A "Drive-In" Night Special Event: The SMT Salutes Elvis. Saturday, August 23rd 8:45 pm

Memphis Star Wars FanForce: The Suspicious Mind Trick presents a very special "Drive-In" Night salute to the man who put the "Suspicious Minds" in our name.

On Saturday, August 23rd we'll have a special double-feature presentation of two of Elvis' concerts.

The night will kick off with "The '68 Comeback Special", the concert that reminded the world why Elvis was the King of Rock and Roll.

Afterwards, we'll show the legendary 1973 concert "Aloha from Hawaii", so groom up those sideburns and dig out that rhinestone jumpsuit and get your lei on.

The films will be at our house, and will start at 8:45 pm. Be sure to bring your lawn chairs, snacks, coolers, and bug repellant. And, as always, BYOB. (If anyone needs directions or more info, feel free to PM me.) Sequined jumpsuits and sideburns are optional.

Oh, we are so there. I look forward to you and Traci's dad singing American Tribute, whilst inebriated.

 

Yeah, there will have to be a little "pre-game" show with some bits from Aloha from Hawaii. Gotta have "American Trilogy".

 

Slight change of plan, everyone. We're replacing "That's the Way it Is" with "Aloha from Hawaii". It just didn't seem right to not have "American Trilogy" in a night dedicated to Elvis.

Thanks to Traci and Nicki for bringing me to my senses. By the way, the bruises are healing nicely.

Let's all hope that the weather is like tonight! I went out and all I could think was, "This would be a great night for a Drive-In night!"

 

I know! The weather this weekend was fantastic. I'll keep my fingers crossed for weekend after next.

 

My Dad is going to Memphis that weekend, so I might be able to swing it if I can find a ride back here on Sunday... [fingers crossed]

 

I'm really hoping the weather will be good. So far The Weather Channel has scattered thunderstorms every day next week, including Saturday. (It's almost like they're playing it safe and just saying, "Aw heck, it might rain. It might not. We really don't know, but we're going to put it on the calendar anyway, just in case.")

Jacob: I hope you can make it. Heck, get your dad to come with you. (50 million Elvis fans can't be wrong!)

 

Five nights to go, everyone! So far the weather is looking good.

I have to work on Saturday, I don't know yet if my sister will get to come yet. She wants to.

 

Hate that you won't be able to make it, but tell Missy to come on over, Chris.

 

We need to have a candlelight vigil to make this freakin' rain go away, y'all. I'm not calling it off as of yet, but I'm as nervous as a pretty girl wearing a Star Wars shirt at a Con.

 

I was just about to ask when you will make the decision to cancel or not.

 

If we cancel, I'll call it at around 4 pm or so. I can't trust the forecast right now, though, because The Weather Channel's website says it should be storming right now and the sun is shining nice and bright. I'm keeping an eye on four different forecasts right now. So far, it looks like there's only a 30% chance of rain and thunderstorms, so I'm still hopeful. We're to the point in the year where the weathermen just put a chance of rain in the forecast to cover their butts, so I'm holding out hope that it'll still be a good night for Elvis.

If we do have to cancel, though, will too many people be out of town next weekend? (Hard to believe it's almost Labor Day!)
