Filmmakers Lucas and Spielberg To Be Subject of TV Drama

The A&E Channel is expected to announce today (Thursday) that it will produce a two-hour drama about the relationship between filmmakers George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. According to Daily Variety, the biopic, tentatively titled Celluloid Titans, is being exec produced by Granada America's Jody Brockway (Rudy: The Rudy Giuliani Story). A&E programming chief Bob DeBitetto compared the project with TNT's Pirates of Silicon Valley, which portrayed the rivalry between Apple's Steve Jobs and Microsoft's Bill Gates. "In this case, these two really did have a friendship. They compared notes. When Spielberg was having travails about Jaws, Lucas was talking about Star Wars," he said. The two also collaborated on the Indiana Jones movies.

This could be interesting.

Well with A&E it might be decent. I wonder how much they will cover though. From the THX1138/Sugarland Express days until say the first Indy film?

 

If they cover a lot of time, the actor who plays Lucas will have a real showcase role. I mean, he's going to have to better Robert De Niro in Raging Bull, going from someone who's skinnier than a monkey to the mid 90s' GL.

 

I wonder how much would be about their personal lives. Speilberg had an affair with Kate Capshaw on the Temple of Doom set and I've read that Lucas had an affair with singer Linda Ronstadt. Was that the reason for Lucas' divorce?

 

Marcia left GL because, among other things,
? felt he was too dedicated to SW, LFL, moviemaking, etc.

Lucas and Rondstadt did indeed date for a bit, but this came after the divorce.

IIRC, Marcia had an affair with someone on the set of ROTJ.

I'm looking forward to this movie. The Pirates of Silicon Valley was very good.

 

As for Spielberg he was already divorced by the time of the filming of Indy 2, where he met Kate Capshaw.

I wonder of they'll cover their initial battles when they were barely associates, Spielberg doing Jaws and Lucas developing Apocalypse now after THX and Amercican Grafitti. Although I hope they cover one key moment: Lucas car accident which is what eventually led him to film school.
