Chapter 35: Newlyweds

Tahiri and Anakin laughed almost nervously as they entered the sunset room. Anakin reached behind her, softly pushing the door closed. He pulled Tahiri's hand gently, guiding her around to face him the other way as he pressed his back against the door. Tahiri's swallow was audible, and she felt like the lump in her throat was visible in the soft glow of candlelight. Anakin offered a small smile, removing her flower garland and veil.

"This feels so strange." Tahiri whispered quietly.

"It's new for the both of us," Anakin said, brushing his free hand against her cheek with a tenderness that made her take a breath. Tahiri closed the gap between them and buried her head in his chest. It was obvious that the normal, confident blonde was, for once, unsure. "Just trust me."

Slowly, she began tilting her face upwards. Anakin's deep blue eyes conveyed care and, most importantly, love. Tahiri let out a sigh, igniting small bursts of laughter from both. Next she gasped as Anakin lifted her gently in the air and brought her back down so that her arms encircled his neck.

Tahiri smirked as she broke free, leaving him puzzled. She walked over to a candelabra and began blowing out candles all over the room. A smoky haze began rising from the leftover wax. The only candles left burning were the ones surrounding their wedding bed. Taking a seat on the edge of the comforter, she patted a section beside her, inviting Anakin to sit.

At first he complied, but then Anakin began to tickle Tahiri, and she fell back into silky pillows in laughter. Anakin gave chase, rolling onto her and staying put. Tahiri playfully pushed him off and attempted to tickle her assailant. It had no effect.

"You forget-I'm not ticklish there."

Tahiri's mouth opened wide in a combination of surprise and mock horror, and as she did so, he kissed her deeply. Her eyes fluttered shut, relishing the moment as he wrapped strong arms around her small frame. Anakin ended the kiss by releasing her lips and kissing her closed eyelids. Tahiri smiled. Then she remembered he was winning!

She crawled out from under him and got under the covers in a flash. Anakin frowned. "Mission failed." Tahiri whispered huskily.

Anakin shook his head. "Resistance is futile."

Tahiri giggled and Anakin grinned as he began to peel away layers of bedding. "First the comforter, next these sheets-those have got to go-and wait, what's this? A dress? I'll have to see what's under there..." He jumped in the bed next to her and blew out the remaining illumination, commencing their first of many nights together.
