There once was a time when I was a newbie.

There, I've admitted it. I didn't know anything about these forums, I spelt terribly, and, god forbid, I used Jar-Jar speak in posts. Yes, good folk of VicFF, I once used expressions like "hewo!" and "mesa".

    [face_plain]

Now that that shocking revelation is out of the way, I'd like to credit this forum - this forum - with knocking that out of me. From the moment I walked in here, starry-eyed and full of AOL-speak, I was a changed man. Or rather, a changed boy. The dynamics of this forum were unlike I had seen anywhere else, and were unlike anything I've seen since.

Protege-of-Thrawn, Rogue_Product and Jet-Eye were all on something, I was certain of it. They dominated the threads and the forum - I remember one stage where eight of the threads on the first page were made by PoT. LordVaderFF threatened me with a ban (even though he was only CR) because the second thread I made in here was advertising a peace rally - some "Mods" in the US had taken offence, of course. I would link to the thread but it is embarrassing. Damir and the rest were in on some joke I've never quite understood and to this day, no-one has yet figured out exactly what Mixo is talking about. No-one.

Take a look back ten pages or so. I BLOODY DARE YOU. The forum was overrun with sheer randomness. If you don't laugh, there isn't a bone of humour in you. For example:

Come here if you want to be confused

Who (females) is willing to go with HawkNC as his date to the Yr 12 Formal?

The New Ager Dump with Mixo and Lute (ie what did our Grandpappies used to say)

    Do it for Delta

There were also great Political threads. And a few that I am still stunned ever got posted. For example. Damir advertising for Starwalking. WTH?

Look around you today. Most of the threads are discussing Star Wars. Star Wars, people!

There is not a moment of randomness in sight. Not even a hint of spam. No Huggard, no firm, no tight. I'll admit that VicFF was never very good at the real life aspect of a Chapter, but bloody hell, could we spam.

People - I put it to you today that VicFF has become sanitised. Yes, I've said it. VicFF: Join the Confusion. Or rather, to keep things up-to-date, Join the bog-standardness.

I'm not asking for real life meets. Although the prior discussion of Kareoke sounds interesting, we all know VicFF will never go out and meet on a weekly basis.

I'm not asking for dedicated posting. You've gone and got yourselves real lives, and that's fair enough - this place will never return to the amount of daily posts it used to get.

What I'm asking for is a little bit of randomness. Just a little bit.

C'mon, do it for Delta, the Diamond of Australia. Do it for all-that-is-Huggard, for thou knoweth he is the light. Do it for Thorpie . . . uh, we all know what comes next.

I now predict that this thread will feature at least three posts by a South Australian before the next Victorian, followed by Hawk arguing that he does lurk, we just never say anything worth him responding to; shortly followed by PoT, who will type up a short but sharp repost to Hawk for even suggesting such a thing, which will incidentally be the last we see of him for the next week-and-a-half.

    Thank you, and goodnight.

I believe the greatest problem with looking back at old threads is the wonderful picture Shara did of Kane superimposed with Delta has disappeared for ever!!! :(

As old Grandpappy Mixo used to say "Don't confuse an open mind with an empty one and never confuse a starving Huggard with a feasted one"

This harlot on the TV is exclaiming in a saccharine voice about her "humps".

    What has music come to?

Not the same as back in the day, so grandpappie Pott0r has to say...

I don't quite know...I tend to think of this place in terms of ideas rather than time :p

But my first post was in the old Procrastination Thread

It was just so...*sniff* welcoming! And I learnt to call that-which-is-ambrosia by its earthly name, Milk [face_love]

Under no circumstances are you allowed to go back and look at my old posts here. They are just embarrassing. [face_plain]
