This thread is based on the political literary works of Al Franken, a comedian who is best well-known as being a head writer for Saturday Night Live.

    Franken's works include:

Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot: And Other Observations

    Oh, The Things I Know

Why Not Me? A Look Into the Making and Unmaking of the Franken Presidency

I'm Good Enough! I'm Smart Enough! And Doggone It, People Like Me!

Lies (And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them - A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right (His latest book)

I'm currently reading "Lies" and I seriously recommend his books. They're smart, witty, and very well-thought out.

EDIT: The thread title is a re-occuring joke in his latest book "Lies."

What was the name of the short lived Comedy central series with him and (California Governor candidate) Ariana Huffington?

That?s how I'm most familiar with him. Used to love that show.

I've been meaning to read his books especially with the controversy surrounding the title.

Although I probably don't agree with all of his view points he's still a verry funny guy. I love it when he's on Conan.

Sometimes he's funny, but it's definately a stretch to say his ideas are "well thought out". The guy is a raving lunatic.

I couldn't have said it any better.

I decided to check out LIES AND THE LYING LIARS WHO TELL THEM on the basis of 1) the title and 2) the whole "fair and balanced" lawsuit which I found so inane. Flipping through the book, it looked mildly amusing, but didn't seem to say anything that I hadn't heard before, so I passed it over.

Al Franken *yawn* All he does is try to shock people with how much of an ass he is about his opinions, but just ends up sounding like, well, an ass. He's not very funny or thought provoking at all. The Democrats should be ashamed to have him hosting convention dinners.

I love Al Franken. I got his book "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" on tape and spent a long, car-ride listening to it and nearly caused several traffic accidents from laughing too hard :p

I can't wait to get "Lies" to read. Al Franken is utterly hysterical. "Rush" is a great read before "Lies" - and although there's lots of political humor in the book he fills them w/ plenty of other, non-political humorous stories to help paint a truly unbalanced picture of him as a human being :p

Al should be the Democratic Party's mascot :D

BTW I loved his TV comedy show also- I am currently blanking on the title of it also. The problem with it was that it was way too witty, and intellectual for regular tv which is why it failed... unfortunately.

Franken is definitely unbalanced, to say the least. He physically assaulted fellow liberal Alan Colmes at a dinner party, and actually had to be escorted by security out of the Fox News building once for being so out of control.

Al says otherwise. That iformation is "distorted by the right-wing media."

He's never assaulted anybody. Alan Colmes is a Democrat from the Fox News Channel Show "Hannity and Colmes." Al would never assault him because they like eachother and respect each other's views.

Also, Al was never escorted out of the Fox News building for being out of control. Sean Hannity and Al got into an argument about a Rush Limbaugh joke referring to Socks (Clinton's cat) being the Whitehouse Cat and Chelsea Clinton being the Whitehouse Dog by showing a picture of the 13 year-old. Sean said it was a mistake and Al proved him wrong using logic and Sean couldn't stand it.

I love "Operation: Chickenhawk" and "The Gospel of Supply Side Jesus."

Yeah, I'm sure Alan Colmes is lying about how Franken assaulted him.

Stuart Smalley was the worst, stupidest, most unfunny thing ever on Saturday Night Live.

I had the misfortune of actually catching a bit of him talking on C-SPAN this weekend. He was trying to be funny, and the weak smattering applause and non-heartfelt laughter was evidence to the contrary.

    I moved on.
