I have the story of Star Wars record that came out around 77. It starts off with the reeader saying "A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, a great adventure took place."
I always wounder why they add the GREAT ADVENTURE TAKE PLACE part. Was this going to the in the movie but then taken off?
    Anyone have any idea?

I have that same record! I've had it for 26 years (I'm 28)! I had heard that originally the film was to open with "A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, a great adventure took place." I think it remained on the record for the simple reason that it was spoken by a narrator, and would be an incomplete sentence/thought/intro without it.

Maybe they included that to make the story seem more like a historical legend. "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" already parallels the beginning of some fairy tales, so the record took the parallelism a little further.

I'm glad they did leave it out.

"A long time ago...etc" by itself is great. Add "A great adventure took place" and everyone would point, laugh and throw tomatoes at the movie screen.

Easy now, tomatoes is pretty extreme! But I know what you mean it does makes it sound cheesy.

    Hmm, cheese and tomatoes :D

I hate them both, therefore I would have no problem in throwing them at the movie screens. :D

The "a great adventure took place" would sound really corny. I'm glad it wasn't in the films. It sounds too fairy-taleish.

I used to have that record--it has C-3PO and R2-D2 on Tatooine on the cover.

I must have listed to that thing 300 times.

I think it was left out because it was deemed too long. It was shorten to "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...".
