Has anyone ever figured out or tried to figure out exactly *how* long ago and *how* far away?

Well technically.. you also must wonder.. if the Star Wars universe does exist and did happen a long time ago.. what would it look like today?

But in the end, both questions really don't matter. Because none of it does exist.. or does it?! Very puzzling indeed. ?[face_plain]

    I discovered a nice coincidence.

At the center of the pic below is where our galaxy is. Off to the left is a cluster called Fornax Cluster. In the novel for EP4 A New Hope, Han Solo makes a referance to "The Fire Rings Of Fornax".

    Scroll down slightly. :)

    How long ago?

Exactly 10,188 years after the events of ANH, the Journal of Whills "landed" in Lucas's backyard.

Approximetly 10,191 years after the events of ANH the first film of Star Wars (A New Hope) is released.

    There you go. :)

Ken Kenobi- And you have a nice day ;)

    LaMent: [face_shocked] Spooky!

But hey, what if Star Wars actually takes place in our galaxy and we are in the Unknown Regions? We may not have been discovered yet!

I have thought about that one.

Obviously the saying is meant to invoke a sense of timelessness in a far away land, but that's beside the point.

On the scale of that map link above the GFFA could be some 40 million lightyears away.

I like the fact that it's vague and inaccessible. That's part of what gives the story it's enchantment.

Given Mark Hamill's hairstyle, I'm guessing ANH takes place at some embarassing time between 1965 and 1988.

    atomik: Interesting...very interesting.. ;)

I got my information ffrom TimeTales, and the actual date seems to be quite fitting for continuity and chronological event lines. :)

"It helps to create a broader, denser Star Wars galaxy and gives fans more of a sense of ownership--rightly so."

I like this very much ;)

Here is my view on the Star Wars galaxy itself.

It does exist. But maybe not in the way we think it exists with the lightsabers and all. There may be a galaxy out there.... somewhere, that is one "Republic." There are hundreds on billions of galaxy's in the univeres and we just don't know.

And you never know.... maybe in 5 or 10 thousand years, the Milky Way galaxy will be one whole "Republic."
