As you know, life is tough for a soldier out in Iraq. The daily torment of being separated from your family and loved ones can take its toll. It is a time where the strengths of one's relationships can be tested to its extremes.

Fortunately, darren has found a way to help him cope with these difficulties, and wants to share with you just exactly how hard it is working overseas in a warzone.

Here is the most recent picture of darren with a VIP whom he had to escort round the base for 2 days. Her name is Sammy Braddy and is quite googlable

After a couple of months in the desert alone with no women, you'd be amazed at how low your standards become.

Well then Ogli, get yourself down to your local AFCO and express an interest in any one of the three forces. They will then provide you with enough literature to start your own library, and then hound you incessantly until you return the first application form for an initial interview with a representative of your chosen Service. At this point it is advisable to buy a suit and get a haircut in order to show your dedication. When you arrive at the interview the people at the front desk will generally lark about and pull your leg until your interviewer comes through (now, should you have applied to the Royal Navy, and be expecting a Naval Officer to walk in you will be in for a shock as in comes approximately 8 feet of man-mountain Green Beret) and asks you to follow him. So far, so good, right?

You then get to the interview room where he proceeds to interrogate as if you actually know something worth sweating out of you. You will be expected to know everything about the Service you are planning to join, it's history, the equipment they use, where they are currently deployed, what is served in the Mess on a Tuesday, the exact range and capability of each weapons system, what fuses they use (and how to change them of course), along with an explanation of all the traditions behind cap badges. As he finds something you don't know he will push further and further in that direction till you break and admit "Not a farking clue mate?!". This is the worst part, as you sink as low as possible, trying to keep some part of your self-esteem intact. The grilling goes on for a few more minutes just to make sure you really are down before he moves onto what your reasons are for wanting to join and thinking you are good enough. He'll then start to help you, point out what you did wrong, perhaps correct any misconceptions you have and point you in the direction he thinks you'd be best suited. Also expect some comments/insults at this point about your fitness, and general person i.e "Now, trying to put this politely - you are a bit slight, you wouldn't hack it. Try this instead."

After a few minutes dicussing what happens next and answering any last questions, you will be ejected from the building, and told to await a letter confirming your next interview approx. 4 months later.

    *4 months later*

You turn up for the second time (after another haircut), this time, you'll know what to expect and feel a bit more confident. After the repeat of the larking about and leg pulling you'll again meet your interviewer, who will again take you to an interview room. Braced for a repeat of the SS-esque interogation session, you'll be amazed as the tone changes and you realise he's on your side (more-or-less) and is trying to help. You'll talk about what you've done to work on your shortcomings as highlighted last time (and it will be a very long list!) as well on how your academic side is coming along. He'll ask about what you want to do, how you want to apply, when and most importantly to what branch. If you're not sure, thats not a problem - he'll schedule another interview, and will do so until he thinks you're ready to go for selection. Again you're turfed out onto the street thinking - hoping - this time that you didn't make such a fool of yourself.

    That any help? :D

Hmm...upon re-reading it, it seems somewhat less humerous than first intended. Oopsie.

    Ignore me, most people do!

No, sadly using 'eye linear' to keep my eyes straight isn't enough, or do you mean eye LINER? In that case, it's just a little touch up here and there ;)
