I think he died well. I like his death due to the fact that it makes SW more realistic, but I also hate it due to the fact he was one of my absolute favorite characters of all time. He is one with the Force now, and probably more connected in death than anyone else, due to how he died. It does, however, confuse me greately that his body remained.

Chewbacca had to die to convince everyone that this was going to be a long and painful war. He was a great person, and it was not Anakin's fault that he died, so Han should not blame him.

I wasn't very happy about the buildup of him beforehand, and then his sudden death, but I decided that the Solo family needed to suffer another loss for the events of Traitor, Dark Journey, etc. to take place. I'm still open to the possibility of him returning, but I doubt that it will happen.

Very necessary, and perfectly done. Chewbacca had become a baby-sitter/mechanic in the pre-NJO books, which is mainly because his vocalization can't be expressed well without sounds. The authors needed to kill someone off to get the point across that no one was safe, and this was a perfect way to do it without losing story material. It was also increased the depth of Han Solo, and Anakin, which was very necessary to prevent the NJO from becoming novel after novel about war, instead of character driven books with the war affecting them, but not truly being the focus.

I'm cool with it. i think that lots of people were thinking that chewie died and then the main characters were invulnerable again, leaving the deaths to be glorified minor charactars. such a beloved and central character dying made the NJO more dangerous and uncertain

i'm ok with that one too. it made the books less monotonous and predictable, it made characters seem more vulnerable and it had good in-story connections. chewie's part had also died down a lot by then so it was an ok way to get rid of him.
