Gizzi1213: **CLUNK!!** That's the sound of that 2 x 4 hitting Padme over the head. She's turning over that data pad without having listened to the meeting between Anakin and Palpatine! At least that appears to be the case. However, I'm concerned over the fact that she left the data pad on her desk when she went out to meet with Anakin in her apartment, when he told her about Mon Mothma's supposed meeting with Senator Zar before his death. Sly didn't APPEAR to find anything suspicious with it the first time, but who knows? The way things have been going, that recording could now be altered too!

Yes, who knows with Sly Moore on the case.

But, you couldn't possibly be that evil to keep us in this suspense for much longer? Or could you...

Chapter 34


Mon Mothma gracefully strode into the Jedi Council chambers. With her shoulders squared, she stood regally before the twelve members, calmly waiting for the meeting to begin. She felt the eyes of everyone on her, but she didn?t waver one bit. So much was at stake here, and she only hoped they would listen to reason.

?Senator Mon Mothma,? Mace Windu began in a solemn tone. ?Do you know why we?ve requested your presence this afternoon??

?I would imagine it has something to do with my viewing the security tape of Senator Zar?s final afternoon.?

Mace and Yoda exchanged knowing glances. And for some reason that gave her a small bit of comfort.

?Draw a conclusion from viewing the tape did you?? Yoda studied her carefully as he waited for her reply.

?Yes,? Mon Mothma said simply. She endured the awkward silence that followed by staring confidently ahead.

?Would you care to share them with us?? Ki-Adi-Mundi asked dryly.

Mon Mothma thought silently for a moment. ?Might I inquire why the Jedi Council is interested in my observations??

?We seek only to confirm what we have learned,? Yoda replied in an amused tone, his ears twitching.

?I see.? Mon Mothma took a moment to glance around the room at each of the assembled Masters. She smiled in understanding when her eyes met Anakin?s.

?I believe the tape was altered before Knight Skywalker viewed it,? she announced confidently.

?Agree with you we do,? Yoda answered ominously.

Mon Mothma blinked in surprise. ?However, I do not know who may have altered it or how,? she continued.

?We do,? Obi-Wan began. ?And?,?

?It was Sly Moore,? Anakin interrupted, ignoring the startled looks from the rest of the Council.

?I see.? Mon Mothma turned to face Yoda. ?Then perhaps you should have summoned her here instead of me.?

?We would have if we could prove it,? Obi-Wan sighed. ?But the Chancellor?s aide has been very successful in covering her tracks.?

?I don?t think I can help you obtain the proof,? Mon Mothma replied sadly.

?We know,? Mace interjected. ?That is why we have summoned you here.?

Mon Mothma gazed at him in confusion. If she wasn?t here to receive judgment for her actions then why was she here exactly?

?We would like your assistance in setting a little trap for Ms. Moore.?

Mon Mothma gasped. This was definitely not what she expected to hear, but she was pleased to know the Council had a plan in mind.

?I?m more than happy to help the Jedi in anyway I can,? she replied knowing if the Council was suspicious of Sly, it would only be a matter of time before they were equally suspicious of Palpatine. Having the Jedi as allies in exposing what was really going on in the Senate was just the sort of help she and her colleagues needed.

?There is some danger involved,? Kit Fisto warned.

?But we will protect you,? Anakin vowed, once again earning aggravated looks from the Masters.

?I am willing to accept the risks,? Mon Mothma assured them. ?If it means exposing corruption in the Senate. What exactly would you like me to do??

She listened attentively as Mace carefully explained their plan.
?That will certainly get Sly?s attention,? she mused.

?We will have someone from the Council watching you both closely,? Mace continued. ?Your risk should be minimal.?

?Thank you,? Mon Mothma replied. ?When would you like to begin??

?Tomorrow,? Mace declared firmly. ?The sooner we expose Ms. Moore, the safer we will all be.?

Padme palmed open the door to Chancellor Palpatine?s office, hoping the office would still be empty. Palpatine was supposed to be in meetings all afternoon and all she wanted to do was pick up the data pad and get it safely home before it caused anymore trouble.

She stepped inside, freezing at the sight of Sly Moore working quietly at Palpatine?s desk. Feeling a sense of dread, she slowly walked into the room.

?Good Afternoon, Sly,? Padme greeted, swallowing the lump in her throat a

 

**Hands piratedreamer the 2 x 4** Just don't shatter it over her stubborn noggin!

Piratedreamer, you're gonna have to share the 2 x 4! Goodness Padme! Could you draw any more attention to that data pad with a neon sign???

Hm... What is it that the council are going to have Mothma do? I love the vagueness so we have to wait and find out. Good to see Anakin knows who to investigate.

Now Padme. I can understand how Sly makes her uncomfortable but she really needs to be more careful because now Sly is suspicious of what's on her desk. Not good.

This was quite the intriguing chapter. You now have me dying to find out what this plan is. Great job here.

 

?That won?t be necessary,? Sly interrupted, making her way around the desk. ?The Chancellor has an errand for you.?

Padme stopped, whirling around in surprise. ?An errand??

?Yes. Queen Breha is scheduled to arrive at the Chancellor?s private landing dock within the hour. He would like you to be there to greet her and escort her to the MedCenter to see her husband.?

?I?d be happy to,? Padme smiled, relief washing over her. ?I just need to?,?

?You have another personal task?? Sly sneered indignantly, frowning in annoyance.

Padme gulped, icy shivers traveling down her spine. She glanced quickly at the data pad lying in the center of the desk.

?Really Miss Naberrie if you can?t handle the being the Chancellor?s personal assistant?,?

?I?ll go right away,? Padme interjected, starting toward her desk, ?I just need to pick up?,? she paused at the glare Sly threw her way. ?Never mind, it can wait.? She turned back around, walking as quickly as she could from the room.

Okay, now I'm worried. Well, MORE worried.

So if Mon Mothma is in on this does that mean that Padme's role is receding?

 

Yikes! Sly is somehow becoming more and more evil with every passing post. As soon as I see her name appear, I feel like I need to pull on my winter jacket. She's just so cold... She has definitely inspired several cases of the heebie jeebies.

I'm so excited that the Council is going to be setting a trap for Sly. Now we just have to hope that she waltzes right into it. And three cheers for Mon Mothma for being so willing to help - she's such a neat character and you two write her so well.

I wonder if this is a legitimate errand or another trap for Padme. Hopefully Anakin's protective senses where she's concerned are up.

Good characterization of Mon, she's an excellent Senator as she is cool under pressure. Too bad Padme isn't as quick a thinker. If she would have just shown disgust with Sly's attitude and picked up the datapad on her way out she probably wouldn't have aroused any suspicion. Sly knows she's a brat
