I read in the Sun-Times today that ANH will be shown in Grant Park on August 23rd, chosen by Ebert himself. Sounds like another summer outing in the works.

    I laugh at your innocence.

It will be, of course the Special THX Mastered Re-touched Super Edition, available on DVD in September.

This year's line-up sounds pretty cool.

    July 12: Citizen Kane (1941)
    July 19: Annie Hall (1977)
July 26: My Darling Clementine (1946)
    August 2: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
August 9: The Night of the Hunter (1955)
    August 16: The Hustler (1961)
    August 23: Star Wars (1977)

I would guess both E.T. and Star Wars will be the revised versions. Of course, I don't know if they've actually made a film print of the 2004 DVD, so it could be the 1997 Special Edition. Or Roger Ebert might have enough pull to have the original versions of those films. We'll see.

The article also mentions that Ebert will get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on June 23. He'll also get a sidewalk plaque in front of the Chicago Theater on July 12, which Mayor Daley is declaring Roger Ebert Day in Chicago.

    Phil

    EDIT: Spelling error fixed

i'll cut off my right arm if it's the pre-SE print of the film. there's no way that would happen.

but hey, what a fun post-sith fan campaign to ramp up in chi-town.

How very "Star Wars" of you to offer to cut off a limb. I must insist that it be your right arm. And I want video.

Better yet, fly back and let me do it.

i think we should all make a day of it. i am game. can i bring my puppy ? he can bite off that arm if we see the unrevised anh. i would be shocked to if we see it but i would think that ebert has that pull to make it happen. and good for ebert getting some accolades we should have a walk of fame like toronto and hollywood

My friend Patrick is in grad school as SCU (something to do with film) they were given the original films years ago on celluloid, and they still have them. Also, wasn't that outdoor film fest in Schaumburg (or whever) last year the original untouched OT as well? It's possible that this will be the untouched version.

Yes Precious, it brings its nasty puppy, by August it's flesh should be tender and soaks up the sauce well.

I'll probably take the day off to stake out space for Star Wars.

Anyone interested in seeing E.T. on August 2? I may get out of work a bit early for that one.

Pets are not allowed to the screeings. Sorry.

There's more information on the event at [link=http://www.cityofchicago.org/specialevents]www.cityofchicago.org/specialevents[/link]. There should be a link there for Chicago Outdoor Film Festival.

Are we attempting to stake out a Chicago Force seating area? That would be cool.

I plan on attending this and think this would be a great idea. FYI: I'll probably be taking the Metra from the Arlington Heights stop down to the city for this.

Let's see. With July's average about 95 degrees, you should be alright if you dress as Slave Leia in August weather.

    Malikili, here I come.

We should try to coordinate this. I can't make it until after work. Maybe we should have some sort of message system set up. Like those who can get there early and stake out a space call someone online, who posts the info for those coming later.
