FF:SA A new trooper

So I have finally succumbed to the temptation of being a trooper. (Damnit!)
I am thinking of going Shadowtrooper in black ABS (assuming still available).

However, I did see a set of fiberglass Eps 3 clone trooper armour going somewhat cheapish on Ebay.

Anyone had any experience wearing the clone armour, or any fiberglass armour?

General opinions on realative coolness of either (I personally like the idea of being the first TX in Australia )

Pros and cons of fiberglass vs ABS?

I've been searching the 501st forums and they seem to be contradictory.

Any help would be appreciated.

Damn, just got an email saying they are out of black armour.
Wonder if I can tempt them into buying more black ABS?

 

Fiberglass is strong but heavy... so in aussie it's kinda hot
ABS is lightweight but breaks, so you become a master of repair, just ask any trooper

I was also hoping to have it done in time for the Norwood Pageant.

Hmm, I think I may be able to deal with the weight in exchange for durability.
It'll get me fit again.
And I am gonna boil regardless

I've put a bid on the clone armour as there seems little chance of getting Shadowtrooper armour for a while. (That can come later when I have more money I guess).
Hopefully I'll be getting it.
If not, I 'll have to track down another supplier, and probably won't be able to get it done in time.

If you plan to Troop - don't buy anything made of Fiberglass.

Does anyone know any armour makers that produce shadow trooper armour?
I'll be checking with the 501st forums too.

I don't really want to pay full price for white ABS just to paint it black.

You best bet would be to try the 501st forums for second hand armour & paint it.
Will save you a fortune.

 

only prob i see is that you have to be a 501st member to log into the Official 501st website.. i could be wrong, give also the RPF a try.

 

already signed up with the Special Ops Detatchment forums to enlist their aid.
Not sure about the main 501st one yet.

 

Bypass the main forums & head for TAG - Terror Australis Garrison

 

You don?t want to paint a white suit Black. Stormtrooper armour rubs against other pieces of armour all the time. You would scratch away the black in many areas the first time you wear it.

Full suits are available in Black ABS. ( Black plastic that needs no painting ? just polish.) The FX brand comes in full black. FX is cheap also. I?ll keep an eye out for you.

 

Was definitely thinking black ABS for reasons mentioned, plus less hassle.

Saw that, but decided it wasn't worth paying that amount for a scratched to hell suit, when I could wait a while and get a new one (theoretically) for the same (or possibly less) price.
