Alec winced as the antiseptic was applied to his knuckles.

?That is what you get for starting a fight.?

?They insulted mom. You would have done the same thing, Ophalia.? Alec, although usually with a deep voice, had reverted back to that whine Ophalia had heard so often during earlier years.

?Do you think your mother would have wanted you to start a fight in her name??

?I don?t know. Why don?t we ask her?? The tone Alec used was harsher than Ophalia had ever heard the young man use.

?Alec, do not start.?

?They insulted my mother, who is dead!? Alec felt his stomach turn even as he finished the statement. ?Ophalia, I am sorry.?

?It does not excuse the outburst Alec.? Ophalia could feel her insides twisting. She had talked to Quessk about the fight already, and really could not blame the young man for lashing out.

?I know, but they insulted mom. I couldn?t let them get away with it.?

?It was just words Alec. People will use hurtful words sometimes. You have to rise above it.? Ophalia felt her insides twist some more. The statement was something she could hear Leanna saying to Alec if he had gotten into trouble like this.

?Yeah, I thought you sounded like her too, just now.?

Ophalia raised her eyes to look at Alec. ?How did you know??

?Just a feeling I got.?

Ophalia stared a bit more intensely at Alec. ?A feeling??

?Maybe my heart is talking to me.?

Ophalia looked back down and continued to work on Alec?s hand. ?Perhaps it's something else inside of you.? Ophalia?s whisper was barely audible.

?What was that??

?Nothing Alec, just saying your knuckles look a mess.?

Alec?s face blossomed to a new shade of red. ?How are the rest of the combatants doing??

?Face?s left eye is swollen and Sai has a gash to her ribs, but it will heal. She actually seemed rather happy about the wound.?

Alec laughed a bit. ?She had mentioned feeling cooped up lately.?

?Well next time, take her to the mats and let her work out properly.?

Alec winced again. ?I?ll remember that.?

Mia looked at her sister. The swollen eye was not too noticeable, but the fat lip stood out pretty well. ?So, did you give as good as you got??

Tia tried to smile, but the swollen lip did not want to comply. ?Well, I got in a few shots.?

?It looks like you took a few also. What happened??

Tia looked down. ?Alec got into a fight and it kinda erupted into more.?

?Alec?? Mia said curiously.

?It wasn?t his fault. He saw something was about to happen and went to help out.?

Mia nodded. ?And who started the fracas??

Tia looked down. ?Alec did.? Tia knew where Mia was going with this. ?But, it wasn?t his fault. They insulted his mother.?

Mia nodded again. ?Tia, that isn?t an excuse.?

?Maybe, but?? Tia suddenly quieted.

?But what??

?He looked good.? Tia giggled.

?I have no doubt he did.? Mia laughed with her sister.

Quessk dialed down the harmonics on the shields and listened. The number two shield had been fluctuating ever since they had left Kessel. The bridge was quiet, as most of the crew either lay sleeping or was in the galley. The night had come at the perfect time. Quessk sighed again. He knew Alec was hurting deeply inside, but Quessk now had worries. Alec was the leader now and he needed to act like one. He would have to talk to him tomorrow. For now it was better to let the young man sleep it off.

?It's quiet up here.? The soft voice startled Quessk.

?Hi Jess. You should be resting.?

?I?m still a bit worked up.? Jess smiled as she sat down.

?Bar fights can do that to you.?

Jess looked intently at Quessk. ?Sounds like you have some experience in that.?

?I have been in a few, yes. A little advice: never be in a bar when a Wookie starts a bar fight.?

Jess laughed out loud. ?That must have been a sight.?

?I had always thought it just a rumor that they ripped arms off of people. I found out it wasn?t

Yet another nice post, OWLC. Nice to see Alec's heritage manifesting itself even further. Assuming that peeking into Ophalia's thoughts was a result of the Force.

Alec sat looking at the book. His fingers brushed the spine again. ?Just open it? he thought to himself.

After his hands slowly turned the outer cover, he came upon the menu. Alec tapped lightly on the training icon and the screen shifted, with new pictures and words appearing. Headings for meditation, active force use, force use during defense, and miscellaneous were some of the choices before him. His fingers itched to push on misc, but then he noticed a subheading under defensive force use. It read: hand to hand. Alec was intrigued. Any stories of Jedi always had them using lightsabers, and he didn't think they needed hand to hand techniques. He pushed on the heading and scrolled down, noticing a page number and flipping to the appropriate page. Alec sat back and raised the book, his eyes roving back and forth.

Face sat down and looked across at Kell. ?You still glad we came out here??

Kell forked another bit of Brulaki. ?Cause of the kid??

?Well, he is in charge of the group here and if every meal is going to erupt in a fist fight . . .?

?The kid just lost his mom. I know it wasn?t right, but he needed that.? Kell speared the last of his Brulaki. ?Let?s see how he responds to our plans.?

Face nodded. ?From the fight, any ideas who will work best??

?I think there are a few who can do what we need them to do.? Kell looked at Face?s plate. ?You gonna eat that??

?So, the real reason you want to stay comes out.? Face smiled as he passed his plate across to Kell.

?This Chen is an excellent chef.?

Face took out a data pad. ?I think it's time we met with everyone and laid out the cards for them. Kell, don?t talk with your mouth full.?

Alec walked into the training room. The past few hours he had read and reread a myriad of techniques Jedi learn for hand to hand. Alec was surprised at the similarities that Jedi techniques had with the Sloushia martial arts style. The Jedi seemed to flow effortlessly with their movements. He could tell from the motions shown in the book's tiny datapad screen that jedi fighting methods took a lot of practice and a lot of skill.

Alec moved forward into the middle of the mat and began to go through typical warm up exercises. He could feel his muscles stretch slowly and his joints loosen up. Bit by bit, Alec felt his body wake up. The soreness from the brawl subsided slowly as he worked his shoulders and back. One foot planted, he swept his other around. He kicked out with his right foot and then leapt from the ground snapping his elbow out. Alec landed and rolled his head around.

?So, let?s see what I can do.?

Alec had not only read about the jedi hand to hand skills. He had made sure to look into one other tiny bit of reading. Alec?s father had written down that Alec would need to learn how to tap into the force. The descriptions given about what it felt like made Alec eager to try. Obi-Wan had stated that feeling the force flow around you was like feeling one?s body wrapped up in a warm ocean current. Alec sat cross-legged and closed his eyes. He tried to feel inside himself. His father had said it was sometimes good to concentrate on one?s own heart and go from there, feeling each beat, feeling how the body helped life flow with each beat. Alec listened intently, hearing one beat and then the other. He could feel things slow just a tiny bit. The air was stagnant. His pulse slowed. He could almost feel everything around him. A loud clomping sound rang in his ears. Eyes snapping open, Alec looked around. There was nothing, though. Then the sound of someone walking by the door registered in his ear. Alec shook his head and stood up. Moving around, he strained to hear the footsteps as they moved away from the door.

Alec sat down, crossing his legs again. With his eyes now closed, the sound of his heart began to beat away again. He felt the room warm a bit now, almost feeling the life in him. Alec sat there, just listening to sou

 

I know what Kell expects, although I would have known anyway.

Oh, and don't even think of sending this post to me again as a joke. He's been evil, folks, sending it to me three times!

Nice post, there, OWLC. You've chosen an interesting to introduce Alec to the the Force, but I suppose he does have his reasons. I wonder how long before the encounter in the Jundland Wastes Obi wrote this, since the teaching doesn't quite sound like the way he started with Luke.


My guess is that Kell suspects Alec of having some ability in the Force. After all, he is married to Tyria, who's got a modicrum of ability herself.

The Falleen woman smiled. ?You have done well.?

Niamalia looked out from her command ship, the Kralth?th. The Correllian Corvette had been retrofitted with brand new shield generators, the turbolasers had been completely rebuilt, and Niamalia loved the feel of her new ship. As she looked into space, two flights of Tie Fighters looped down and away from the Kralti?th?s starboard. Each TIE now had shields.

To the port side of the Corvette, Niamalia saw her two new Delta class escort shuttles. Each looked as deadly as it did graceful. Finally coming up from beneath, her command ship was her newest ship. Although the Assassin-Class Corvette was a newer design, it did not have the feel of her own Corvette. Kotok, her Gran Lieutenant sat in command of this ship. Her fingers itched to go and show the galaxy just what "pirate" meant.

?From your look, I would say you are pleased.?

Niamalia turned to face Spenrath. ?I am, yes. Raise the Raklir.?

The comm officer quickly called the other Corvette. ?Yes, my captain?? The Gran?s voice was gravelly.

?Load up your fighters, Kotok. We will jump to hyperspace in two minutes. I want this raid to go quickly.?

?We await your signal to jump.? The comm silenced and Spenrath moved forward.

?Are you ready to begin your reign??

The smiled spread slowly across Niamalia?s face. ?I am ready to let the galaxy know they have someone new to fear.? Signaling the navigator. ?Let us begin.?

The two corvettes and both Delta class shuttles shot into the distance.

Alec looked up as Face entered the bridge. ?Something up??

Face nodded. ?There was an attack on an outpost about two hours ago. It was pirates.?

Alec glanced at Face. ?Our pirates??

?Yes, and it looks like our pirates have upgraded.?

His brow crinkling with worry, Alec flipped a few switches. ?What do you mean upgraded??

?Let?s just say the NRI will be very interested in what we turn up.? Face sat down at one of the stations. ?I was hoping I could talk you into a trip.?

?Where to??

Face typed in coordinates. ?Well, this is where the attack took place and they need supplies quickly. I was thinking a ship such as yours could provide much.?

Alec smiled. ?And provide you with an excuse to get on station and check things out??

?Well sure.? The older man adjusted a few more dials. ?Plus we can hang out for a few days and see if anyone tries anything else. I am going to have someone else meet us while we're there.?

?Someone else?? Alec was curious who this new NRI person would be.

?I have a feeling the captain of this pirate fleet will strike fast and often for a bit. I bet she likes her new toys.?

?Just what are her new toys?? Alec did not want to take his crew some place where the odds were tremendously stacked against them.

Face frowned. ?Well I only got a little information on that. Part of our trip will be us downloading everything that was recorded about the attack.?

?Ah. Will this new person be helping??

The grin Face had now could only be called silly. ?Actually, I believe two of your crew will do nicely.?

?Just what have you been doing with my crew when I'm not around??

The look was now innocence. ?Just watching them work, I swear!?

?Uh huh. Sure. Work on what??

Face sent some data to Alec. ?Just a few programs Kell and I brought with us.?

Alec brought up the programs. He had never attempted much slicing in his days. Well, except for trying to get the adult channels on the holonet. Alec recognized software designed to train slicing techniques. ?Who were you going to use??

Face sent over two names. ?Sai and Carina have showed the best skill so far. Although Jess also could work if you want to keep one of the others to do something else.?

Alec let the names go through his head. ?Why don?t we go over your plan??

Face nodded and brought up what he and Kell had

 

Looks like more trouble for Alec! Good post big boy! Can't wait to read more.
