Eeek! Things aren't looking good for the Jedi. Not good at all. But I have faith in the Lightside. They'll pull through.

Man! Can't Exar Kun just stay dead! Sheesh. Look all the other Sith Masters went away, well except for Freedon Nadd, oh, and then was Marka Ragnos, uh, and of course Palpy cloned himself. But the rest of them didn't come back - ehhhhh, well in KOTOR Ajunta Pall did but he attack anyone, just scared those who went in his tomb for the first time.

I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

Night came quickly to the jungle moon. One moment, the sun seemed to be slipping down below the tops of the giant trees and then suddenly twilight fell, with night following on its heels.

I absolutely love this stuff. It's just so beautifully descriptive.

I like the fact that Xan is slightly intimidated by the presence of the kinda-dead Sith Lord.

And our dangerously unbalanced Sith Lady has arrived. Killing young padawans and laughing? How deliciously evil.

Maybe I'm totally missing something, but in TJP Luke mentioned some sort of prophecy about Mara - well heck, it's the name of the story - has that been fulfilled yet?

Only four posts left? I don't want this to end! Oh well - all good things, right?

I would have guessed Exar Kun . I have not read any of the graphic novels or any of the books without Han and Leia. (My interest in Star Wars vanished without Han, Leia and Luke). I don't know if that character was in the NJO or other anyway. Whatever, I am enjoying your story! Come to think of it, I would have been reading other Star Wars characters, if you had any input into writing them. You make them fun...even when they are bad.

 

Good Post All I have to say is I am glad I was too busy to read this till today so I only have to wait till tomorrow insteas of 2 days for the next post. Or I fear I will ripp out all of my long red hair, that took my 3 years to grow to this length.

Your comments about Jen's baby have me wondering if you have a sequel in mind...am trying not to think about how the child could be influential in these final few posts - talk about Jedi/Sith Superbaby Syndrome! ...unless...that's the wirgin Exar Kun opts for - Can you imagine potty training a sith lord? No, thank you!

Chapter Eighty

Somehow, as they tried to make their way through the maze of corridors toward that keening cry, Han and Luke ran into Leia first.

?What are you doing here?? Han demanded as he rounded the corner and saw his wife with her small escort. ?Where are the children??

?I sent them down to the safe room,? Leia said, ?but one?s missing. Nyala.?

?I think she?s around that passage there,? Han said, pointing.

Behind him, Chewbacca grunted, //Stormtroopers are inside.//

?I know,? Leia answered. ?I can feel them inside the temple. Come on, we?ve got to hurry, get her and then get her down to the safe room.?

They headed down the corridor toward the passage where they could hear Nyala?s cries, but before they rounded the corner, they could hear a change in the pitch of her screams. It had gone from fear to panic, and had risen by yet another octave before the howls stopped abruptly.

?They?ve got her!? Leia gasped picking up her pace and grasping her lightsaber more firmly as she ran toward the sound of Nyala?s screams.

They could now hear the clattering sound of stormtrooper boots heading away from them, and they rounded the corner at a flat run following the stormtroopers through the maze of tunnels.

?How the hell did they get in here?? Leia demanded. ?The firepower they?d need??

?Knowing Tauro?s toys I wouldn?t be surprised if he had a little bazooka that could destroy a star system,? Han said, amazed that he was having to run flat out to keep pace with his diminutive wife.

They rounded another corner, but still, their elusive quarry was one step ahead of them. They found themselves in a long corridor with several other corridors branching off the main passageway. The booted footsteps could be heard fading in the distance, but?

?Where are they?? Han demanded.

Even knowing this was a bad idea, Luke and Mara found themselves entering the obsidian temple as they chased after Jen Tauro. As she had withdrawn her scarlet blade from the lifeless body of Binna Sui, the hapless cerean padawan she had killed, she had looked straight into Luke?s eyes, her blue eyes filled with scorn and challenge?and ice.

Pure, blue ice. As Luke had looked back into those soulless eyes, he had felt a stab of guilt. [i]I failed her, he thought. I had a chance to turn her to the light and I failed her.[/i]

Mara did not waste her time on such self-castigating thoughts. She had already parried and slashed her way through scores of stormtroopers as she headed toward Jen. Just before she reached fighting distance, Jen gave one wicked smile and then turned and fled toward the obsidian temple that loomed in the distance.

Mara was very fleet and had nearly caught up with Jen by the time the Sith princess had made her way into the temple. Mara readied her lightsaber as she raced up the steps toward the temple, but then a sudden spurt of atavistic fear swept through her and made her stop in surprise.

The pause allowed Luke to catch up to her, but he too, stopped in surprise as a wave of terror, of cold, black,[i] blankness[/i] washed over his senses.

When Luke had first established his academy on Yavin IV, he had explored each of the Massassi buildings in the temple plaza, trying to decide which ones were habitable and useful. A small cluser of a dozen buildings in the southeastern corner of the compound, which had been partially renovated by the Rebel Alliance, had seemed the most practical at the time, and Luke had taken over those buildings, intending on slowly expanding his academy to use the other buildings over the next several years. When he had explored the obsidian temple, he had noted that the temple was incredibly well preserved, but otherwise, had not noticed anything out of the ordinary. The cloying sense of malignant evil that now seemed to emanate from the very walls of the temple had been utterly absent.

On a calmer note... You described the action scenes very well. I could almost see what was happening!
