Ahem, we're not allowed to say the 's' word, as I understand it, but are we allowed to refer to the small yappy-type dog, a '****-su', by its real name?

Thing is, I want to tell a story in YJCC, which conveivably might interest some users if they're clever enough to spot the term, but using that particular word is vital.

I promise there's nothing rude in the story.

    Can we say '****-su'?

An example of this which wasn't rude, and featured in John Cleese's classic Fawlty Towers:

"What type of dog is that?"

    "He's a ****-su."

"Is it? Oh dear, I'm sorry."

My story kinda hinges on the word for a similar reason, but doesn't use the four letter 's' word or any gross imagery.

    Is it ok?

I can PM any mod who wishes to read it for perusal first.

    Thanks.

I thought it was shi-tsu or shih-tsu or something like that....with the hyphon *before* the 't'?

I had a look on dictionary.com, Dagsy, and it's spelt many different ways, but the spelling I chose is better for the purposes of the story. Can I PM you the story?

    :)

Actually, thinking about it, it could work ok with 'shi-tsu', since the gag revolves around the word ending with 'su', but the placing of the hyphen is uimportant.

Yeah, ok, I'll do it that way.

    Thanks.

The proper spelling is shih-tzu (or tsu for stupid Americanized versions).

I would go with the spellings offered by Darth Dagsy and dp4m. ;)

    Thrax...
"I had a look on dictionary.com, Dagsy, and it's spelt many different ways..."

While neither here nor there, interestingly enough, the response from dictionary.com for "****-su," "****-zu," "****-tzu," or "****-tsu" is "No entry found"

The dictionary.com response for "shih-tzu" is:
      1 entry found for shih-tzu.
      shih-tzu

n : a Chinese breed of small dog similar to a Pekingese [syn: Shih-Tzu]
Out of curiosity, since you said you looked on dictionary.com, what were the responses it gave you for the above words?

If you went with the spellings provided by Darth Dagsy, Genghis, and dp4m, would the main idea you were trying to convey still get across to readers?
