I started reading about a year and a half ag with the Jedi academy triology and from there I hve read every Star Wars book except for the the Junior and Young Jedi Knights. You should read them all in order.

Although I haven't read all novels yet, only a small part, I would suggest you to read in order, too.
Either you start in the prequel era then you first have to read the Jedi Apprentice series, going then to Rogue Planet and further, or you start after the old trilogy; then you'll have to start with Truce at Bakura. Beside there are novels in between the old movies, for instance Shadows of the Empire, Splinters of Mind's Eye and the Galaxy of Fear series.

I would sugest reading the Thran Trilogy first. Then the Rouge/Wraith Squadron books, the JAT/I, Jedi, then skip to the Hand of Thran Duligy. That is the best way I could see reading them. You should dkip anything in bettwen the JAT/I, Jedi and The Corellin Trilogy untill latter.

You can't skip the Thrawn duology because that is where it explains Baron Fel whose son later appears in the NJO and that is also where the New Republic and the Empire make peace finally.

Admiral Pelleaon is one of the GREATEST characters ever.

    Read JAT before I Jedi.

    More reading:

    Han Solo Adventures
    Han Solo trilogy
    Black Fleet Crisis

All of these are referenced to heavily in the NJO

read the Jedi Academy before I, Jedi.

I would suggest reading the Truce at Bakura either before the Thrawn Trilogy or right after you finish it.

Hey, everybody is different. Pick and choose the ones you think you'd like. I love Jedi Apprentice, but alot of people don't like that series. I like X-wing too, but am not throught with it yet. I wouldn't have read X-wing until I read somebody say they were good.

dialect, if you want to read the X-wing series, go for it. Most people seem to love it.

However, as someone who found it boring, tedious, and far removed from the movies (about the only OT character with a major role in them is Wedge), if you read a couple of books and feel the same way about it that I do, you can skip the rest if you want to. Nothing much of significance happens in them that you can't pick up from later books.

I, Jedi is the same way.

Good luck, and welcome to the EU! :D

I personally would read them in order but if you dont want to read every one I would read them in this order:

    1) The Thrawn Trilogy
    2) Jedi Academy Trilogy
    3) I, Jedi (Though if you want background info on Corran Horn read X-wing books 1-4 and also book #8)
    4) The Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy
    5)The Hand of Thrawn Duology
    6) Then head off into the New Jedi Order--Though again if you want background information the Young Jedi Knights series may come in handy, though I never read them, and are not having any trouble keeping up.

I, Jedi makes for a great companion to JAT.

first read either truce at bakura or the first heir to the empire book. then read all of frank herberts dune books. all 6. then you won't need to read the rest of the EU because you'll have realized what poor writing goes into EU. you will have a new found love of good sci fi.

You know, vw_jedi, if you don't like the EU, no one is forcing you to post here. Just avoid the EU forums. We don't appreciate this trolling.

Yeah, it does. It also tells the fate of a main character from Truce at Bakura.

Read them all in order. The only Star Wars books that I wouldn't recommend to you are the Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy. And if you're going to read the whole rest of the EU, you might as well read them too.

I would also recommend reading them in Chronological order, but in my opinion, some of the best ones were Shadows of the empire, Courtship of Princess Leia, and The Han Solo Trilogy.
