"A Sacrifice of Youth" is the story of Lisea Venn a (OC) padawan and her masters. It starts off with Order 66, and goes into the Rebellion era with flashbacks to events during the war.

All the usual disclaimers apply. We'll see where the story goes.

    Chapter 1

The Venator-class Star Destroyer Perseverance sailed through the littered space above the ringed cities of Cato Nemoidia. The Republic?s final push to end the war was at hand. Operations to destroy General Grevious in the Utapau system were underway, and it had fallen on Master Plo Koon to finish what Kenobi and Skywalker had begun here just a few months before. His Delta 7 accelerated off the destroyer?s flight deck, quickly followed by the Perseverance?s three squadrons of ARC 170 fighters.

?All squadrons form up on my mark,? he spoke into the receptor on his breath mask. The Kel Dor checked the status lights, and as each clone sent acknowledgement, Koon reached across the space between them, wrapping the clones? senses into his own, and farther into he battle meld he shared with his most recent padawan.

Lisea Venn watched the fighters forming up on the bow of Perseverance. Closing her eyes and accepting her place in the meld, she relaxed, and began to meditate. The crew in the pits around her barely noticed the behavior of their commander. To the clones manning security and tactical positions, their deference came from her role as a Jedi. To the others aboard, they had simply come to excuse the commander?s behavior because they could no longer count how many times she had saved their lives.

?All squadrons, Vulture droids are inbound from Nemoidia City, bring Blue Group to sector 21 mark 3 to intercept. As she spoke, the clone pilots completed their course changes. They could not even spot their targets on scanners yet, but they didn?t need scanners. The droids would be there.

Traveling at nearly 1000 Kph, the vulture droids flew deadly straight toward Blue Group?s waiting V-Wings. The droids, much like the clones they were about to engage had no fear, only a mission. They were the last defense of the Nemoidian race.

?Knight Home, this is Blue Leader, we?re engaging the enemy,? a clone?s heavy voice came over the comm. ?Copy, Blue Leader,? was the only acknowledgement Lisea offered. She had felt the adrenalin in Blue Group skyrocket. Her thoughts hung in the space battle for a second, then she blinked away and released the feeling rolling over her. It was a sad fact of battle meditation that no good was derived from lingering with minds as they became one with the force. It was a lesson she had learned many times in the last two years from her first master. The attachment had nearly driven her mad when Master Loth had died seven months before. She flexed her hands, listening particularly to servos rotating inside her new left hand. She would never make the mistake of attachment again.

Koon and his strike force were tasked with destroying the last remaining strongholds of Separatist troops in Nemoidia City. Once the aerial defenses had been destroyed it would be safe to begin landing the Clones from the 271st Legion that waited in gunships aboard Perseverance and Battle of Hypori. The first turrets and Hailfire droids came into view as Knight Group made their first pass over the outer ring of the city. The R4 unit nestled in the fuselage of his fighter chirped twice, and Plo Koon pulled the trigger.

Lisea nodded as she acknowledged Master Koon?s message that the battle was joined. It was now time to execute the second part of their plan. Not breaking her meditation, she spoke clearly and simply to all the bridge, ?Tell Commander Karn it is time.?

From the tactical station, Captain Fel turned and gave the go-ahead. A no nonsense commander from Corellia, he had ventured out of retirement at the behest of the Chancellor himself, and had commanded the Perseverance since her launch nearly a year before. Fel had known many Jedi, though never h

    She was lucky...:p

Okay, maybe not. She was incredibly skilled to be able to escape Order 66 like that. Loved the speech she gave at the end. Keep up the good work!

    Thanks :D.

I think it would be one of those times where your sense of survival just kicks in, and you try to make it through. She certainly doesn't have much to live for in the Empire.

I didn't want her to seem too powerful, but the backstory will show that she has some skill to go with her Corellian luck.

It's only six clones anyway, not the whole 501st ;).

    Chapter 2 : Escape!

As the turbolift dropped, so did Lisea?s heart. For the moment her senses told her that she was safe. The clones left aboard Perseverance were in no shape to challenge her, though she suspected that Commander Karn and his troops were probably in contact with Captain Fel already, and on their way back to the ship.

The lift came to an abrupt halt, and Lisea immediately drew her lightsaber before realizing she had reached her level. A quick scan of the hallway outside showed that she was alone. She had no wish to meet any of the crew, just in case they felt obligated to kill her: she had no wish to kill them. The intensity racing along her nerves left the force swirling around her.

I have to calm myself or even the droids will be able to tell I?m Jedi. A few deep breaths passed, and she opened the door.

She had decided that entering the flight deck would be out of the question. Karn?s returning clone troopers, and the mechanic staff would have to be dead to miss her prepping a fighter. And trying to escape in a Jedi interceptor was painting a target on herself that would be too large for even the security forces in the outer rim to miss. Luckily for Lisea, the Perseverance had acquired several civilian freighters that would be in the capture bay on the underside of the destroyer. As she made her way toward the maintenance shaft the cleaning droids used to travel between decks, a plan formed in her head. She reached quickly for her comlink.

Tucked into the astromech socket of a violet and grey Actis interceptor on the Perseverance?s flight deck, R4-C6 waited for Lisea?s command. Whenever the ship entered combat, the fighter was prepped at ready five in case she needed to enter the battle directly. The action here at Cato Nemoidia had begun no differently than the hundred or so before, and patiently the droid sat, oblivious of the recent tragedy.

    ?Foursee, do you copy.?

Three low-pitched bleeps came back a second later.

?I need you to warm up the fighter, and get ready for launch.?

The droid whistled sharply twice, then bleeped.

?I know this is going to sound crazy?? she began to give the astromech its orders.

Lisea finished the outline of her plan, and the droid sent its acknowledgement. Connecting to the fighter?s controls the droid began to activate power and weapons systems. The process would take only four minutes. Then he would wait for his master.

Droids didn?t think things were crazy. Not the way living beings did. What Lisea had asked was a request that would have burnt the logic circuit out of most factory-fresh astromechs. Luckily, R4-C6 was far from ordinary. An unlikely request was just part of working with Jedi. 87% of the time their actions did not follow the most logical course, or so a protocol droid at the temple had said.

If Foursee?s distraction could buy her even a little bit of time she could have one of the freighters readied, and use the droid?s distraction to escape the ship. With a limited number of flight deck crews the capture bay was empty as she climbed out onto the scaffolding that crossed the roof of the bay. Several maintenance droids were working on a battered looking Corellian light freighter at the far end of the bay, that provided it was functional, would do nicely.

Dropping onto a service ladder, she quickly slid to the deck only a few meters from where the droids were reattaching a hull plate to the YT-1300 freighter.

?Is this ship ready for travel?? Lisea asked, nearing the foreman droid.

?Master Jedi, the Hutt?s Folly is spaceworthy, though the shields are still only at 28 percent,? the metallic voice answered.

?That will do,? she said with a wave of her hand, motioning the droids out of the way. ?My mission is of the utmost importance.? Behind her, the general quarters siren sounded, adding eerie emphasis to her statement. Not that it mattered to a droid.

Up the ramp, she turned right and followed the cavernous passage toward the cockp

Thanks for reading. I hope to be updating more often as exam week winds down. The story is unfolding almost faster than I can write it out.

As Lisea makes her way to her destination (read: big secret), I'm going to flashback to her experiences in the clone wars, and her relationship with several different Jedi.

In chapter three we get to meet her first master right before Geonosis.

    Chapter 3

An ominous sky hung over the Jedi Temple on Courscant. Inside its ancient, hallowed walls the eyes of the Jedi watched along with those of the rest of the galaxy as the Galactic Senate debated the creation of a standing army. The crisis between the Separatists and the Republic seemed to grow tenser with each impassioned speech. After news had been received in the Senate that Chancellor Palpatine?s ambassador?s had been refused an audience with the Separatist leader Count Dooku of Serenno, system after system had clamored that the Chancellor needed the power to bring the renegade systems back into the government. Many others had countered that it was the duty of the Jedi to protect the Republic. In turn, the Jedi had made it clear to the Chancellor?s Office that they would be unable to fight such a war on their own.

Master Nera Loth knew that the Jedi mandate to protect the peace had lead to many wars in the past. She knew all to well how tragic those war?s had been to both the Jedi and the Republic. As the Senate debated, the Jedi had meditated. The council had made their decision to support the will of the Republic. Now they had to trust the Force that they would not have to bring arms against one of their own.

Master Nera had known the Count fairly well. It had been the Count and his master who had brought her to the temple for training some sixty years before, discovering her on a trip to Iridonia. In the following years she had taken lessons from the Count and grown up in the crèche with his padawan, Qui-Gon Jinn. Then he had just been Master Dooku, and it had been Nera?s good fortune to learn much about lightsaber combat from the Makashi master. Now she was forced to look into the future, and see his eyes stare back as an enemy.

The Zabrak had never been one to dwell on possibilities. She was a student of the living force much like her friend Qui-Gon had been. It was her connection to the living force that had helped in her manifestation of the Jedi art of Battle Meditation. It had been her skill in this field that had led to her apprenticeship with Master Oppo Rancisis, the most renowned Battle Meditator in the Order. The Stark Hyperspace War had given her the opportunity to test herself in large scale fleet action and ground operations. Her actions in the war had led to her appointment as a Jedi Master. As thoughts of war entered the Temple, many had no idea what their place might be in such a conflict. Nera Loth knew exactly what role the force had assigned to her.

A Jedi?s life is committed to the resolution of conflict she thought. This will be no different. The mantra soothed her momentarily.

In her heart she knew that this would be different. Across their quarters Master Nera?s thirteen-year-old padawan, Lisea Venn, sat deep in meditation. The girl?s black hair was braided in one long rope down her back; dangling beside it her padawan braid. Even with her eyes closed, Nera remembered the intensity of the girl?s blue-green eyes. The eight year old had been so quiet, so reverant, and so open to the force, as her new master had tied the first knot some five years before. That knot connected them. And where Nera knew she had to go, she feared to take Lisea with her.

At thirteen, Lisea, had strong saber skills, and was highly intelligent. Her skill in the force seemed to know no limit. Master Yoda had personally asked Nera to consider training the girl. It had only taken one brush of the girl?s presence in the Force for Nera to make up her mind.

Nera had arrived as Yoda?s Beginning Lightsabers class was going through a training drone exercise. Yoda had simply indicated that Nera might consider taking a padawan from the group. Yoda had said nothing more. The students had formed themselves into a loose formation, leaving each room to maneuver. The four training remotes attacked randomly, regrouped, and attacked again. Each time the blaster bolts were skillfully intercepted. The coordination the younglings displayed was im

Thanks to everyone that's been reading. I'm glad you're enjoying her story. I'm trying to show her weakness, as well as her strength, since boards are always filled with all-powerful characters that turn out to not be very interesting.

Starting with the beginning of the end means we know things can't stay good for long, even if Master Nera did survive Geonosis. ;)

Sooner or later, she's going to get her wish and go to war. She's just going to have to learn a few things first.

To paraphrase Moff Jerjerrod, I shall redouble my efforts.

    Chapter 4

The Temple had changed in the month since the start of the war. To the ordinary citizens of the galaxy it appeared that the Jedi were being just as enigmatic as ever. Jedi still came and went in a variety of spacecraft and speeders, off to the Senate, and the courts. To those sensitive to the force, the temple was draped in mourning. Their ancient enemy had been revealed as one of their own, and even the most pacific of Jedi were drawn to one battle or another. Friends debated over the role the Jedi had taken with the newly formed Grand Army of the Republic. Masters and padawans argued about interpretations of the Code openly. The Order was being drawn apart from the inside, as the Sith and their Separatist allies attacked from the outside. It was a time that needed determination, and the Jedi were meeting it with confusion. Most sided with the wisdom of the Council, but each Jedi who abstained from participating in the war was a pain in the heart of all the Jedi. No matter what side each Jedi seemed to take, they all knew it was going to be a long, bitter, conflict.

It would be the conflict that would decide the future of the Jedi Order, for millennia to come.

Master Loth had known what her role was. Lisea was confident in that. When her master had left for Geonosis she had full confidence in her own abilities and those of the Jedi she journeyed with. When reports of the tragedy that had befallen Master Windu?s striketeam first reached the temple it had not been by holonet, but by the screams of padawans left behind at the temple, as they felt the deaths of their masters.

Lisea had felt nothing. She had known that Master Nera had survived. Now weeks later, the girl was in a constant state of waiting. Her master tried to contact her as often as possible, but the newly dubbed General Loth had taken command of Task Force Sword, one of the three groups of warships keeping Separatists from advancing on the crucial hyperspace hub of Brentaal, protecting the crucial crossing of the Perlemian Trade Route, and the Hydian Way. Lisea wanted noting more than to join her master at Cardia. She was left looking out the windows toward Eastport, and the staging area where new Clone battalions were being organized and deployed from. She longed to be in a starfighter rising to her hyperspace ring, for the journey to the front lines.

Lisea knew that the only way she had to join her master was to prove to the stubborn Zabrak, and the council for that matter, that she was ready. And if that meant she was going to learn everything there was to learn in theentire Jedi archive, then that was to be her new mission. The girl began to pour over historical accounts of some of the most horrible wars the Republic had known. And like many of the padawans in the Temple, she redoubled her lightsaber practice.

Word had spread through the younglings and padawans that Anakin Skywalker, only a padawan himself, had fought with the treacherous Dooku, only to loose his arm to the newly revealed Sith as he had attempted to defend his wounded master. Once more Skywalker had become the idol of the younglings. They looked up to him, and wanted to prove themselves just as he had, though all of them would have admitted they had no desire to be maimed by the treacherous Count.

In a well-lit practice gymnasium near the ground level of the temple, Lisea and the other students clustered around Master Drallig as he explained to them some of the finer points of the swift, precise, Makashi form that Count Dooku preferred. Drallig knew most of the Jedi in the temple were not Makashi users, and it would be good practice for the young ones given the new threat. Lisea knew much more about Makashi than most of the others: it was the form Master Nera preferred, and Lisea had learned many of the forms best counter-moves from her over the years. She instead looked around the room at the students she had spent her life training with. Anticipation was filling the room. Many of the padawans held their hands over their

This is a short chapter. Lisea starts training with Yoda, and meets a Hero.

    Chapter 5

Lisea didn?t sit waiting idly for Master Yoda. She took every chance she could to either study in the training gymnasiums, or in her quarters, which had accidentally cost her master a chair. She had even gone to the archives and studied the lightsaber text that Master Yoda had written several hundred years before. Still, the war conspired to keep her from her training. Master Yoda had not yet returned to Coruscant. Impatience had brought her to the gardens for an afternoon of meditation.

To begin her meditations, she slowed her breathing, down to almost nothing; quiet rhythms of the plants and insects around her setting the pace of her heart. Taking in everything around her, she stretched out into the rest of the garden, feeling several other Jedi in contemplation, and noticing the ground care droids influencing the very blades of grass they hovered over. She sent warm feelings of beauty and peace to the Jedi. Even if she couldn?t apply the feelings to herself, helping others would be a kind gift. It was the best part of her gift as far as Lisea was concerned. She could bring the beauty of the force to those whom it escaped, even if momentarily. In all her life there had been nothing greater.

A voice abruptly brought her back from her thoughts, and into the reality of the garden. Standing in front of her was Anakin Skywalker.

?You?re Padawan Venn, aren?t you?? He looked slightly bothered at being someone?s errand boy, but maintained the façade of being pleasant. ?The battle meditator, Master Loth?s padawan?

?I am, Jedi Skywalker,? she said, her eyes gazing up in admiration, and awe. She had not seen him since the beginning of the war.

?If only you were on the council, that might be true,? he said longingly. ?I?m a padawan just as you.?

?I?m sorry, I, I shouldn?t have assumed.? She found herself stammering. She never stammered.

?Master Yoda said that he wished to see you. My master and I just left a meeting with him. He said that he would meet you in the gymnasium. I?ll walk with you if you don?t mind. I?m going that way.?

?Certainly, that would be nice.? She knew the answer, but something made her ask the question anyway. ?Would you tell me about the war, we don?t hear much with our masters away?? She regretted asking immediately, and trailed off as they crossed the garden.

?I would prefer not to. Things are difficult,? he said very guarded. ?The Jedi are being asked to do things they can?t do. It hurts us all.?

Lisea didn?t know what to say. She noticed him instinctively flexing his gloved right hand. They walked in silence for the rest of the way to the gym.

?Padawans, good to see you it is,? Yoda called. Lisea and Anakin bowed and approached the master, who stood in the middle of an otherwise empty room.

?Master Yoda, I must be one my way,? Anakin nodded again and began to turn. Yoda?s voice called out and stopped him.

?Padawan, benefit greatly young Lisea might at this juncture, from your assistance as well as mine.?

Anakin slightly recoiled. Master Yoda had never shown such confidence in him before. It was almost the respect Anakin felt he truly deserved. ?Of course Master.? He took several steps out in front of Lisea and activated his newest lightsaber.

    ?Lisea, attack me!? he commanded.

Her blue blade came forth, and she paced several steps to her right. Anakin mirrored her steps, his blade in a low guard. Hers glowed brightly, in a crooked high parry position, coiled like a tree snake. Then she jumped.

She sailed through the air, in a classic opening move. Anakin sidestepped, and slashed out as she passed, forcing her attention away from her landing. She stumbled, and he was quick to bring his blade spinning toward her.

She turned, snapping her blade into the first position and catching his closest strike. She had never sparred with someone who held so little back. Certainly Master Nera had considerabl

    Chapter 6

A reversion alarm woke Lisea as Hutt?s Folly prepared to exit hyperspace. Her memories had comforted her sleep, but the renewed shock of her current situation rose up in her throat as she stared out the window as she approached Chandrila. Three Venator-class star destroyers were visible orbiting the planet, and between them almost 1200 fighters stood ready to intercept any threat to the planet.

Instantly her mind instinctively opened to the familiar clone-minds. She sensed the picket fighters approaching her and knew before the clone spoke that she was about to be hailed. She relaxed, shielding, but keeping a firm grip on the pilot?s mind.

?Unidentified freighter, this is Lieutenant Mor of the Imperial Navy. State your destination and intent.?

A quick second of shock and confusion struck her universe again. Empire? What in the universe had happened now? The questions almost got the better of her, before she responded, pushing through the force with all her abilities, encouraging the clone to believe what ever she said, unequivocally.

?This is the Hutt?s Folly out of Nar Shaddaa on a routine cargo transport mission. The ship passes all Imperial shipping standards.? She had tried to place an added stress on the word ?imperial? but had found it sticking painfully in her throat. In a few seconds she would be on her way, or blasted in to a billion atoms. The definitive nature of her gamble was almost comforting.

?Hutt?s Folly, you pass all current regulations, proceed on course.?

The two pilots veered back into their assigned formation. Lisea could sense nothing suspicious in their minds, and knew only a Jedi would be able to determine that they had been influenced by the force at all. And since Jedi were so highly regarded by the Empire, she suspected that wouldn?t be a problem.

Luckily for Lisea, she had been able to persuade her way out of the docking fee, because the credit chip she had from the Temple would be a quick way for the clones to track her down. A heavy cowl draped her head indiscernibly. The spaceport thugs she saw littering the walkways and storefronts could probably not tell if she was human, much less identify her for what she was. Master Nera had shown her the value of traveling inconspicuously on a trip to Corellia after the war had started. Lisea had observed for the first time in her life how beings outside the temple truly lived and behaved. Her only hope as she wandered through the streets of the strange, yet beautiful, city was to hide using what she knew of non-force-sensitive humans until she could contact the one person she felt she could still trust.

Passing a public refresher, Lisea ducked into the farthest booth and took a second to appraise her situation. Her disguise would begin draw attention the farther she got from the docks. All of the equipment she had was Republic-issue, and selling it would only attract attention she didn?t need. The credit chip, her comlink, and identicard were all quickly destroyed, crushed to uselessness in the strength of her artificial hand. The poncho she had appropriated from the Hutt?s Folly would protect her from the elements, but under it her Jedi robes were a danger. She undid the top layer of her robe, down to the underlayer with a high neck. Her leggings would look typical, if somewhat out of fashion. Only two reminders of the Jedi lingered.

Her real hand brushed through her hair, catching her padawan?s braid, twirling it in her fingers. The braid was a mark of her apprenticeship-the apprenticeship that had ended eight hours ago on the Perseverance. Her small utility blade sliced quickly through the braid. There was no fanfare, no congratulations. It was not the end of her training; it was an act of survival. Her master should have been the one who had severed her braid, but Master Nera had died months ago. If I?ve survived this long, I might as well be a Knight.

I may be the last knight

We'll shortly see that Mon Mothma owes her. This debt is why she seeks Mon out after Order 66.

As for her family, it seemed to me like the information was always public record for the Jedi to be able to find out who they were at birth, but their training always kept them from investigating it. By the time they knew they could discover who their family was, would they really mean anything to them anyway after years of only being Jedi?
It might be differnet if it was someone they happened to know? All I will say for now is that the Perseverance's captain is definitely Soontir Fel's father- I've never bought the idea the Fel's were just farmers on Corellia. We'll see if there are some midichlorians running around that bloodline (which would explain a lot about their skill) later. o_O

Drayson had slipped her quietly out the front door of the Intelligence Building, laughing to himself about the beauty of hiding in plain sight. Lisea didn?t know what to make of the man?s spy humor, but she didn?t really know what to make of anything. As they wove their way through the capitol?s streets, the sense of being momentarily safe was still finding difficulty registering in the young woman?s mind. The force barely whispered anything as she scanned the people going about their days in ignorance of her proximity.

?Lisea, if I may,? he inclined his head asking permission to use her familiar. She sensed his thoughts, responding quickly.

?It?s the only name I?m certain of at the moment, of course you may.? The stress of the last day was getting to her, and she quickly apologized. ?I?m sorry, please continue.? She turned from him, looking back at the passing crowds.

?I know it is not common for Jedi to know of their birth origin. We suspected who you were, but I feared that you were one of Palpatine?s plants, and you?d simply been given Lisea Venn?s backstory.? The distance in her eyes was possibly the best argument he had ever seen in favor of the controversial Jedi practice. ?I knew if you were shocked, if you gave away that you were unaware of the irony in your alias, that you were the real thing. The scanner in the room noticed your arm also, but that just confirmed my guess."

Lisea tried to look past the fact that she had been far less deceptive than she had intended. It was the will of the force that it had been Drayson, and not the clones that had found her.

?So how did this happen,? she began. ?How did we become an Empire overnight?

Palpatine held a senate session four hours after the ?Jedi Rebellion? was announced. Bail Organa told Mon that he went to the Temple and saw the clones killing Jedi.? Lisea nodded as he spoke, confirming the events. ?The Temple was completely destroyed.?

?The Senator told me this just a few hours before you must have arrived. Speaking of which, where is the ship you stole from the Perseverance? We need to pick it up and dispose of it as soon as possible?? Lisea gave him the docking receipt.

?After the proclamation of the Empire, the Senate went into recess. Mon has a few meetings, and then she?ll be on her way here.? Lisea looked forward to seeing a familiar face. A few blocks passed out the windows as each occupant settled into their new world.

?Provided of course,? Drayson broke the silence, ?that Palpatine doesn?t have her killed.?

The speeder stopped in a busy-looking residential area. Lisea followed Drayson to a turbolift, and felt the car rise high up the resplendent tower. He keyed in the code to a fingerprint scanning lock. He asked Lisea to scan her hand, and she obediently held out her right hand to the pad.

?Now we are the only ones who can access this room without explosives, or one of those,? he said pointing to her lightsaber under her poncho. ?Please make yourself as comfortable. We know the brutality that our new government will resort to, but you can relax somewhat. I?ll keep an eye out for you while I?m at the office, and I?ll be home tonight around 9. The Senator?s transport won?t be here until tomorrow morning.?

?Is this your apartment sir?? Lisea already knew the answer. ?I can?t let you put yourself in this kind of danger. I need to??

?It?s no danger that I?m not already in. Even before this business, I suspected Palpatine wanted the Senator out of the way. She and a few other senators have been spreading too much dissent.? His smile didn?t reassure the girl, but he thought it was the right thing to do. She?s lost so much?and this isn?t over.

?I owe you anyway. You saved her life, and I owe her mine. You did something to protect her on Alderran that I never could have. I always repay my debts.? The apartment door slid shut, and she was alone, but safe. Closing her eyes she collapsed on the sofa, curled up, and began to sob.
